  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Someone ask for Rec Start/Stop?

Ok, heres what I'm going with... I added two buttons for volume control on the newly added piezo buzzer. I also tossed in a coiled cable. The buttons are recessed so you wont accidentally hit them during normal use (you may need to use a pen to press them). When you press the buttons, the piezo will sound to indicate the current level of the output. When you get the volume where you like it then the micro controller will store that data in flash so it will stay at that setting until you change it again - even after its been unplugged for a long time.

The sounding will be one long beep for the record start and two short beeps for the stop. The Record LED will reflect the piezo so it will flash in unison with the beep. I'm also going to throw in a setup mode so if you press both volume buttons and hold them down so you can change the duration of the beeps.

Thats sweet Curt. Matt Uhry and I both realized the camera desperately needed this feature after we shot with a red for the first time in September. We bugged red like crazy for it and others joined in but we were told it would be to difficult. I guess red should of hired you to do it for them:biggrin: .

I wish this feature was right in the camera but am glad we at least now have this feature. Put me down for 1, that thing will live on my camera.

Same for me please.

Curt, sorry if this was mentioned, but will you be offering the cable in various lengths?

edit* (for the post below)

That's what I was wondering, thanks Curt.

Yup. We're planning on a couple short versions for hand held/studio configurations and a longer 10 meter (~30 feetish) one for use on a jib arm etc.

I have shipped a few 20ft remote extension cables with my switches, which I found out will also work in the lower port for timelapse triggering as reported back to me. My switch is not as flash as Curt's, but gets the job done.

Top shelf work, Wes!
All my cables were really nicely made. Rental-house bulletproof quality. The remote on/off is nice and small.
Cheers,
Harry Clark

But I suppose it will stay on during the shot? :sarcasm:

Anyhow, awesome product. Count me in.

Count me in for both a short and long version.

When?

This is cute. I've been wondering what to do with my Jib...

Also looking forward to the zoom/focus/iris remote motor & controll, but this is a great start!

That's great CVB count me in, thanks for the beep ! Do you know if it will beep even if we press one of the other 2 record buttons on the camera ?

Will it know to beep if I press one of the record buttons on the camera body?

Good question. I suppose the beep is based on status change of the rec status pin. So it will beep whatever button you press.

I'm not sure if the GPIO outputs a pulse when the other buttons are pressed... I'll look into that today. The led for the record status will remain on while recording. The behavior is something thats easy to modify once we get the units together - just a little code tweaking.

Ok, so I checked out the GPIO and it looks like it will beep with the other two buttons as well. So whenever a rec button is pressed, regardless if its on the camera or our unit it will beep. I'll have a circuit up and running this evening.. stay tuned for the video :)

Awesome! :red_bandana:

Nice if the button lights up when the camera is running as when the camera is up on the end of 30' of crane it's difficult to see run lights, esp in bright sunlight. It's so dissapointing to directore if you don't roll during the best take... Often their anguish equals your pain.
