  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Someone ask for Rec Start/Stop?

This is really looking slick... Nice additions with the new LEDs. Yes, the "PWR" LED seems redundant.

Got the boards and populated a few units. I'll have the firmware on them this evening then its off to their new home in the housings.... We'll be taking orders as soon as we get the store squared away. It should be very soon. (Apologies for the crappy photo... Josh is away today)

Curt thanks for moving so quickly on this elegant solution.

I am prepping photos and other info for that other product idea that posted about a week ago...

Cheers- Andrew

Cool. Thx Andrew. I haven't forgotten, the grip you mentioned is a great idea. I think we'll get moving on that soon. BTW, cool Mad Max avatar.

That is great news Curt... I just purchased an immaculate, freshly serviced/collimated Optex/Canon S16 zoom from Martin (Great Guy...) and this grip would certainly bridge the gap for Red shooters that are looking for the optics/mechanics of S16/35mm zooms while seeking the ability to use them like an HD EFP B4 zoom (sans the abakus converter/major expense). Documentary filmmakers or those that want to pull their own focus will be all over this one. I have a lot to share on this subject, I am really stoked that you are into it as well.

Thanks Curt, the avatar is a character named "Oddball" played by my favorite Sutherland (Donald) in the anti war comedy classic "Kellys Heroes". Now it is very interesting that you mention "Mad Max". My company(llc) name is SEKTOR:26. This was the name of the deadly Australian highway where the final battle between Max and Toecutters gang takes place... it was on a sign for a couple seconds, I liked it.:)

Here is an intro to Oddball from the movie "Kellys Heroes"...

Est Pricing: $110 for the switch w/mounting bracket. Cables separate. (Those pesky connectors are most of the cost)

We expect the cables to come in around $75 for either the short, coiled, or long versions.

THANKS Curt
i think now most of the set price is almost around 200 $ is that true ?
when we can purchase ?

Closer to $185... The web store will be set up very soon.. we're shooting for this week but it make slip. We're working hard to get everything in place.

Very nice work! This is clearly a long way from the "simple power switch" I thought it was at first. Your pricing for this item overall is quite reasonable- I've certainly spent more and got less before- so I hope this is not perceived in a negative way... I was just surprised the "dumb" cable costs almost as much as the microprocessor-controlled switch unit with the bells, whistles and blinkenlights. I assume it's the connectors that drive cable pricing?

> (Those pesky connectors are most of the cost)

Edit: D'oh! just realized you already answered that

I don't think we can work out an accurate way of reproducing the battery level that is displayed on the battery but we can give you an indicator of the current voltage level as monitored by the button - worst case is it would go yellow then red when you are running motors but if you let off then it should go back to green...

(not that it matters since you've already made it, but...)

As I understand it, a simple voltage level monitor is useful. If you turn on a motor or any other current draw and the voltage dips below the cutout level (11.5 V ?) then the camera is off and you are done shooting, regardless of what a time- or load-averaged "% discharge" or "time remaining" number would indicate.

The christmas tree voltage meter can be tweaked ... like someone else suggested we're going to have it so it only changes the status of the battery if the measured voltage is below a given value for more than 30 seconds - that should give a fair indication of whats really going on.

Damn Curt, that was fast. Great work!
Thanks Brook. BTW... I dumped the firmware on the units a few hours ago... works great. I need to tweak the code for the volume control a bit but all in all it works great.

That's great! I feel proud that my idea was actually useful. :sorcerer:
Awesome product, great work!

Curt, You're awesome. No, It's awesome! I think I love you, man! If I was going to NAB this year, I'd buy you AND Darren a beer, or 4. But, as much as I love you, please leave the Speedo with the Gold Star in the room.

Since I won't be buying beers, I guess I'll just buy one of your Zigats (the remote).

(edit) Damn! You already named it! "Origo".. its better than "Zigats" anyway.

Curt, will you be able to use this to trigger ramps and such if you put it in the other Acc. port? (I may be late with that but I can't seem to find it mentioned anywhere)
Yes, it will be able to initiate a ramp. We had a redundant led so I'm going to have it setup to change over to ramp/single frame mode. It will mute the beep in ramp mode but do a single acknowledgement beep in single frame record mode.

I've been going back and forth through this whole thread, and I don't find how to actually buy one. I want at least one with both a short and long cable. Please let me know how to proceed.

Thanks,

Dave
