I always add sharpening in post - mostly using RCXP's alchemy tab. RED - unlike other cameras - does not "bake in" any sharpening, you have to do it yourself in post...

Thanks for the info Peter; that was even much more than I was hoping for. I would have been satisfied with "Canon's". :)

I never feel like my sharpness is satisfactory. Maybe I'm overly critical of my own work . . . I mainly use some rather standard lenses on a Scarlet; Tokina 11-16, a 35 and an 85 Rokinon, and a small range of Contax Zeiss. In other words, I always see people getting, in my opinion, sharper images with the exact same camera, lenses, and settings.

Though, even before asking, I've found that I like to sharpen my Red footage a bit, no matter what I'm doing or working on. But too much, and it starts to look "digital", even if I'd like the result to be sharper. Even from what I posted a page or two ago in this thread, I found that Resolve made my footage look "digital" with less sharpening than RCX, but RCX wasn't getting mine as good as I wanted it either. Though, I'll have to re-try it a few stops down on my aperture. I'll probably get better results around f5.6 or f8.

GREAT GREAT images Peter. You are a poster child for Red's DSMC concept... those are great stills from motion. I'm impressed.

Peter, were those images only graded in rcx? They look great.

Deon thats sick!!

Love em, can I see action?

Thanks Eric.

The stills are part of a bigger documentary project so none of it will be "public" anytime soon but, I do intend to cut a montage of sorts at some point and I'll post it in here.

cheers
D

mostly 4kws and a couple were 3kws.
I had my 5D on me so it was quicker bringing that up to my eye to grab a still than it would be switching to 5K and back.

Thanks dudes.
