I am just so stoked by all the great work popping up in this thread.

Remember when the Scarlet was announced, and people went bananas of its "mini" features compared to the Epic, and others (me included) complained that "it was not 2/3"?

This thread is the revenge of the scarlet :)

Great work guys!

I just have to +1 this. I fully agree.
This is really awesome.

Love these. Care to share any coloring tips...especially that blue sky in shot #4?

Thanks Arthur! I wouldn't say I did anything special, just went for a balanced but saturated look. The first two went through a Kodak LUT as a start and the last two are standard RC3/RG3 to start. #4 was helped greatly by the polarizer I shot through.

Your spread is fine work. I'm loving the softness of the images.

I +1 yours and Gunleik's comment.

I for one being green at this stage will be loving my Scarlet for a very long time :)

Technically 3k is enough for print if your not cropping. It's around a 5mega pixel image. I'm not saying its not better to have 4k or 5k or even 6k, but fortunately 3k just barely hits that mark where images are still acceptable...even blown up large.

True.... But red MX megapixels are soft and mushy at 100%. Even with proper processing and sharpening a 1:1 crop on the mx is light years from a 1:1 crop from canon 5D still for example. So, I'm agreeing that 3K red is just enough.... But it's not accurate to measure/assume image resolution and detail with spec megapixels alone. Know what I mean?

Thanks Arthur. Guess I'm not much of a print guy but I always expected that when printing out you want to be at 300dpi which in the case of 3k would be just under 10" wide but I would want to super sample just to increase sharpness when shrunk down. Is anyone else using Scarlet for prints from 4K mode?

Very true.

On another note, when I first started shooting w/ the Scarlet I shot a project at 2K to get up to 60 FPS. From a video quality perspective, it turned out okay. But the stills turned out terribly from a sharpness perspective. Luckily the images were used as promo and not for anything high quality. Since then I have only touched 2K if I need to get a little more reach while running n gunning and don't have a telephoto lens with me. I realize I could crop in post, but for work that is only going online viewed on smaller players, I prefer to frame it in camera how I prefer vs spending more time in post messing around with the framing.

Great to know, thanks Ryan

I'm not saying 4k and 5k are not way better for photography, but when in a pinch and you need slow mo you can roll the 3k route... just knowing it needs more care taken in post to sharpen, up the ppi or dpi to get it in a usable space
