Schneider Xenon FF Prime Lens Set Group Buy?

Bump me up to committed on the Group Buy list... EF Mount... knowing that this most likely won't be starting until Q1 2014 will give me plenty of time to get some money ready :) I'm in no rush whatsoever if it means a nice discount. Feeling optimistic about this! Thanks for your work David!

Oh so these won't start shipping till at least Q1 2014, is that how I'm reading your update, David?

If so...keep me on the group buy list. As Alexander said it gives me more time to get my money ready anyways.

Cool?

The first sets should ship in November or December (35,50,75). The other lenses will start shipping Q1/Q2. The group buy, if happening, would be for a 25,35,50,75 and 100 set and would happen in late Q1 / early Q2. The group buy sets would ship around NAB 2014 and the 25 would be shipped a few weeks later. Again, I can't promise that it's happening!

Seems optimistic to me. Like I said, we haven't been given any confirmation of production or delivery yet, it's still "later this year". Have they even shown the 25 or 100 yet?

The 25 and 100mm are indeed at IBC. In terms of availability I can't give a hard answer. The 35, 50, and 75mm will indeed be available first. They are and have been ramping up production on these. November/December is possible for maybe the first few sets, but everybody should keep in mind that lenses take a bit of time to make. Delays are par for the course. Especially a new series of glass. So I'd say early 2014 could be a safer bet.

The good news is since their announcement and showcase at NAB 2013 Schneider is well aware of the interest and potential demand in these lenses. This allows them to scale appropriately ahead of time.

I went together with Joost Kelderman to the Schneider Kreuznach booth and met there with Dietmar Kanzer (sales manager) and Dieniela Kesselem (product manger).

First of all: they are great! Really nice people and it's a joy to talk to them.

It's not clear if there will be a group buy, since they don't want to upset their dealers. More info on that in a month or so, after they discussed it further internally.

They are very interested in doing one, to reach the people they designed these lenses for directly, and the discount could be quite fundamental (don't expect anything like 50% or so, but neither just a few percent like on some summer sales). If there is a group buy, it would start Q1 2014 including the 25, 35, 50, 75 and 100 with delivery around NAB, with the 25 shipping slightly later.

Anyway... those who put in a pre-oder at Duclos or other shops don't have to worry; you get your lenses first!

David,

Greatly appreciate the effort! We'll keep this potential group buy list going. Hopefully, the names and numbers helped you sell the idea to them a bit!

The group buy you proposed to Schneider, then, is for their full 25, 35, 50, 75, and 100 Xenon set? Did they indicate the potential cost of that vs the 35, 50, 75 (which is available for pre-order on Duclos for roughly $12k)?

Does anyone els find it strange that pricing still hasn't been announced yet?

Not really. Although it does make me think that the lenses are still at least few months away. I'm not kidding when I say I'm #1 on the Duclos list and there is still no concrete info yet on final pricing or delivery. The info that seems to be coming out of IBC paints a rosy picture with lenses delivering within the next 2 months. I'd love that to be true, but if true it seems somewhat odd that more info hasn't been released yet. I'm hoping to get some sort of better info after the dust from IBC settles. Perhaps dealers will get an official statement soon. I have not heard anything from Matt Duclos since IBC started and I don't know if he made the trip or not. I'll see what he has to say this next week...

Please add me to the interested list for PL mount. Thanks!

Please someone correct me, I thought the Xenons were said to have user changeable mounts?

The group buy would be for a set consisting of a 25, 35, 50, 75 and 100 (maybe with an option for a future purchase of the 18 and other lenses to come... let's wait and see).

Again, I can't give out any prices. We talked about that, but since they have to discuss it internally at Schneider Kreuznach, it's no use of publishing any price now.

Ok sounds good.

On the first page of this thread, I had noted trying to get a group buy going for the original set of 3 lenses (35, 50, 75), which Duclos is estimating at $12k.

I'm worried the number of people interested in a set of 5 lenses will be a smaller number than group-buying a 3-set, since there will be a significant price difference (roughly $4k per lens, or $20k for a set of 5). Therefore, I think everyone on this list needs to be contacted to see if they would be interested in a group buy for 5 lenses still, or if they held interest/a budget only for a set of 3.

The biggest percentage discount will be for the most lenses bought by the most amount of people.
Think the vast majority of people willing to pay for 3 wiould want full sets but maybe not.

Don't think there's much point in going over this cause it sounds like it's been presented
and it's all in Schneider's hands now as to when all the lenses come out..and whether they're
willing to do any group buy at all...and at what discount.

Please add myself as interested in PL set.

I was in the discussions with the lovely product manager today, and if everything works out, I might get some of the first production lenses to shoot some footage around in kreuznach itself.

The ones they had at the booth were great, except a really minor issue which was due to having them rushed for IBC. But these feel and look great. If nothing else, I'd say the form factor itself is already worth having these. These are positively small (compared to MPs and also the Xenars) with a pro build.

For all those who are interested: the PL mount is user exchangeable. So if you want to start out with say a canon mount (which look great btw) and upgrade later on, this is possible. It will probably set you back a little bit for the mount, but you don't have to buy a new set.

That said, they suggest you having the mounts changed by a service center / someone with a collimator or Schneider themselves. But that's still a good thing to be able to do.
