Schneider Xenon FF Prime Lens Set Group Buy?

David has a great track record. Seems silly to buy elsewhere before we hear the outcome of his discussions.

I get where you're coming from - I've held these lenses in my hand, seen the images on camera, and I'm looking at buying a set to supplement the PL RPP's, and Arri Zeiss sets that I already own. But having talked to the factory rep, I also know that supply will be severely constrained in the first year, so it will be 18 months or so before I'll even bother to try… That supply constraint is also a reason why Schneider (in my opinion) won't be handing out any deals right away.

True, but there's 37 confirmed orders on this list. Say a few of us drop out, that still leaves 30 to 35 confirmed orders of a set that may possibly retail for $20K apiece/ $4K per lens. And if we can't work out a GB deal, then most of us will either choose another set, or delay our purchase.

I'm fairly confident most of us on this list are willing to wait a year or even longer if it means a reasonable discount.

I'm not holding my breath either, but i'm also not running out to go buy some Zeiss glass when these lenses are on the horizon.

Like Tim said, David's got an excellent track record. Let's see if anything has happened in these two weeks that have gone by. I can afford to be realllllllly patient for these lenses.

Please add me for PL mount!

Put me down as intrigued! Even though it seems to be quite some time before we'll see these lenses out to market in larger quantities.

On a different note, what are people's thoughts about mounts? I was thinking about the Nikon mount rather than Canon, because it can be easily adapter to Canon and MFT. And then buy then PL Mounts as an upgrade later on.

Bad news... I spoke yesterday to Mr. Kanzer at Schneider. They pushed the delivery of the lenses into the first half of 2014. The group buy is still likely, but again, nothing is fixed yet.

Thanks for the update, David. Bummer.

Either way it's a wait, group buy or not. I also notice that Brandon hasn't been updating the list. It would be interesting to see how many would like to be in on the group buy. Thanks to everyone involved!

I believe they're still shooting for production right after the first of the year now. Official pricing still hasn't come out. All lens sets will initially ship with PL mount -- EF or other mounts can be purchased as an optional add-on. I don't have pricing info on mounts though, but I have not asked. Mounts should be end-user replaceable, however I think it would be best to have proper collimation hardware available when doing the mount swap and I personally wouldn't do the swap unless I could collimate and verify flange position.

Since I noticed no one else had posted it yet, here is the final retail pricing on the Cine Xenons

$11,985 for a 3x lens set (35, 50 & 75mm all T2.1).
$21,730 for a 5x lens set (25, 35, 50, 75 & 100mm all T2.1)

The 25mm/T2.1 has a list price of $5750, all other announced focal length are $3995 and all lenses can also be ordered individually.

Pricing for individual lens mounts has not been released, but will be shortly. Xenon Lenses can ship from the factory in PL, EF or Nikon.

HRC first shipments of Xenons contain both PL and EF mount options, and start arriving the week of 11/25. Hot Rod Cameras has several dozen Xenons due to arrive. We also have received assurance that all our 35, 50 and 75mm Xenon lenses will arrive before Christmas.

The really good news is that despite a very long "interested list" not very many people have placed a confirmed deposit yet, so if you want Xenons it's is possible to get these lenses as early as THIS month from our first shipment.

In case there is any doubt, there's been tremendous interest in these lenses. I would say there is more industry wide buzz and anticipation on the Xenons than any lens set I can think of in the past 20-years. I expect all of our unsold Xenon sets to sell out faster than any lens we have ever stocked.

I know it will be disappointing to many, but I also know that there will be no group buy on Xenons for the immediate future, and I understand why. While I will continue to work on this, I think it's important for people to have realistic expectations. As of today, I believe it would be impossible for a group buy to happen until lenses come out of factory back-order. I know roughly how many sets that is, and what I guess would be the commitment level around the world, and approximately how long it takes to build extremely high quality cinema lenses (by hand) and that all adds up to a very, very, long wait.

HRC has worked professionally as a supplier and dealer of Schneider Optics for years. My personal relationship as a customer goes back with the company more than a decade. My understanding is with the possible exception of one other company, HRC has sold more sets of Cine-Xenar lenses then anyone else in the country. HRC was also the first company to commit to the new Xenon lenses, and we have followed their development with keen interest ever since the day of announcement. They are a natural compliment to the Dragon sensor and to the Epic body with both a FF image circle, and an overall small size and weight.

Every 3x or 5x lens set sold through HRC will receive a free Pelican-style lens case. We also soon will be offering a discount mount swap service for all our Xenon customers, this discount service can be used an unlimited number of times during the first year of ownership.

Personally, I find these lenses really fun to shoot. I can't wait to see what some of our clients can do with them.
