  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SCARLET ANNOUNCEMENT - Feedback

agree.. my overall favorite lens of all time. Having Autofocus and Stabilization work with it on Scarlet ( and Epic ) is an incredibly combination.

Absolutely agree - really been enjoying this lens recently too :)

+1 on the Redmote Pro query. Very much hope that makes it to reality; final piece of the jigsaw for me.

heh heh i'm not sure if where Scarlet and I are right now legally counts as being in a test lab.... but It should.

Jarred would you please share this on bigger resolution ? want this as a wallpaper

There should be a menu option to manually enter lens info for "dumb mounts" or "dumb lenses," as the latest generations of DSLRs have.

Can't be super hard to implement and is, in my opinion, INCREDIBLY useful.

+111

I was suggesting that 2 years ago already - it would be extremely useful for later post work. Maybe one can even put in your own database of lenses and then just dial in the right one on set. Best would be if you could just upload a specially formatted text file with the data from the computer.

Thanks - thought so but wanted to make sure as I am trying to compile a list of "dream lenses" for my Scarlet. :cheers2:

As someone who made an order for the Scarlet X with the Ti Canon mount, I'm curious what other lenses are on your dream list.

Well - I am totally stealing the list from the good people here at REDuser. Everything is subject to change, of course (haha) but I really can't afford PL lenses right now, as much as I'd like to do RPPs or Zeiss - and, I am curious about how much benefit will be extracted out of the auto lenses with the Canon mount. I currently have some rather mediocre Canon glass but it will get me started and let me experiment with the Canon mount.

Then, I am thinking I'd like to accumulate some Canon L-series 2.8 zooms - 16-35, 24-70, and 70.-200. The Tokina 11-16 also looks nice. Of course, I'd also want to build a set of primes and, again depending, Canon L would be the obvious choice - 28, 50, 85. I am thinking quite a bit about how fast I want them to be because, in my experience shooting motion on the RED ONE, f/1.8 or faster is REALLY difficult to deal with in terms of focus so, in the world I frequent, they almost become unusable (only for motion work, of course).

And, like I said that could change. I could imagine getting a PL mount later and some cine glass (RED or CP.2s) for narrative stuff. It's fun to think about, eh? :thumbup1:

It's called an AF100 with the 14-140mm Lens. Has XLR's, Waveform, Vector Scope, Focus Assist, EVF, Playback, 3 NDF's . . . all the stuff you need for ENG. Cost's less than $6K and can shoot 1080/60P.
Yep, but 8-bit colors... so '90s...

As someone that already owns the Nikon glass "trilogy" (14-24mm/2.8, 24-70mm/2.8 and 70-200mm/2.8), as well as a the 50 and 100 macro Zeiss lenses in an F-mount, I'm really not at all interested in the PL or the Canon mount; I did order the canon al mount with the package, but I'm really waiting for the Nikon mount to be released by RED (not interested in 3rd party mounts).

Absolutely. My D700 can do that, I will be very disappointed with a $10k camera that can't...

Bear in mind that the Scarlet (and Epic) are not meant to be "proper" stills cameras. They are for extracting stills from motion.

There are many things which they cannot do, which even $300 DSLRs can: exposures over 1 second, flash sync, etc...

Not knocking the cam (I have an Epic-X) , just stating facts.

And hopefully these facts will change over time? Hint, hint??????

If you haven't started production yet, is it possible to get the SSD in grey as well to match the body?

Two Tone is cool you know. I always got silver "Nikon" plate for my black camera, and vice versa. I would love my Scarlet in camo (like Jannard's Challenger), or maybe scarlet red parts.

Agreed! Long exposures would be a plus.

That's a subjective question... Depends what you are doing with it. As you can see in this photo... I using the titanium mount because I am a little more abusive than I should be.

I'm a little concerned by that response. Do you have any specifications as to max load the AL can take? I plan on using the 70-200, and would like to know if the TI is required to bear the weight.

No reason to be concerned. I think the AL mount will handle the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS just fine. Now if you were dangling a 600mm f/4L IS off the front of it I would strongly recommend rods and an additional lens support.

It's fairly common practice to use some sort of support bracket for focal lengths 200mm and beyond. Not just to support lens weight, but to minimize movement of the lens during focus.
