  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dell 2408's don't work!!! Please recommend a LCD via HDMI

The Dell is not a TV nor does it have a TV tuner... However, it does support all different HD formats and inputs from DVD players.

also.. make sure your monitor is a tv. lots of computer monitors wont display 60htz properly.

By TV he just means that will accept a proper video signal via HDMI.

This is why I'm suggesting converting it to DVI and going down that road. At least the RED and the monitor will be speaking the same language.

Samsung XL2370 LED Computer Monitor Works!!!!

Hello Guys,

Here is an update on my monitor adventures!!!!

Picked up a XL2370 last night at BB. Came home plugged it into the RED and viola!!! Plug & Play!!! Not only does it look great (color & even backlight) but I am certain it weighs less than 8lbs and is wafer thin... It is an inch smaller than the Dell S2408W both in H & W but I am banking on a superior unit all the way around not that the Dell was bad but I think the LED is the way to go. Additionally, It is perfect for my Pelican 1650 install.

Will update you guys with install & field use.

Carlos,

That is awesome! Perfect remote field monitor setup, I wonder how hard it would be to power the monitor from a Red brick or other battery, hmmmm.

My wheels are turning, perfect setup for remote outdoor shoots.

Thanks for the awesome idea!

For 6 months now I've been using two Dell 2408WFP with my Mac Pro 8-Core running Final Cut Studio - and they look great and have worked flawlessly. They're connected to the dual HDMI inputs on the Mac Pro.

The 2408W must be missing some of the capability of the 2408WFP.

Steve,

Don't get me wrong... The S2408W is a fine monitor that I would completely recommend for computer use!!! In fact I was pretty bummed about returning it!!! Big, Robust and under $250. In fact, before I found the Samsung XL2370 I was ordering a 2408WFP. However, my criteria and the purpose of this thread is for a monitor that works out of the box via HDMI as a studio/location monitor on the cheap (under $300)!!!

Note- I only tried one S2408W unit. It could have been defective but most if not all other HDMI sources worked on the monitor. The only unit that could not drive the S2408W was the Red.
