SCARLET ANNOUNCEMENT - Feedback

WOW RED TEAM !! THANK YOU SO MUCH !!
I know that the price was a problem for both sides but you picked the right price for all and I'm getting the SCARLET-X Al CANON MOUNT PACKAGE for sure !!

For years I was dreaming of a camera that would let me fight on the straights with the big boys. Now that camera is here. When I get to the twisty part of the circuit, watch out, that's where I excelled before with underpowered machinery. Now with the same horsepower as the big boys, albeit without KERS (Higher frame rates), you all better be ready for some major kick ass audiovisuals from Macau . With the horsepower of the Scarlet, I'm ready to get into the ring. Thank you Jim, Jarred, Red Team, everyone. Its time for the underdogs to step up!

I got mixed feelings, the camera is too darn good but I miss 120 fps and a simple run n gun camera for a very low price. At this time, I don't know if I can afford it.
What will be the end price next year for a Scarlet-X with canon mount and SSD module?

I can't remember, was Canon announcing something today? hehehe! All I've spent my time watching was RED!

No 8X Fixed. We had terminal issues with the lens. If you are sad, just think about us. All those development dollars down the drain.

Jim

As sad as I am, we can commiserate together. If I'm by RED Studios Hollywood, or up by the sound (wife's from Seattle) I'll buy you a shot of whiskey, or a pint, or whatever you're drinking nowadays.

With all due respect, Jim, I know that 4K is the future, but I'm still not sure why terminal fixed lens issues necessitates not having a 3K option? How about a 3K, HDRx, 120 fps Scarlet with lens options? :-)

Congratulations Red team. Scarlet is quite the accomplisment! I will have to wait a bit longer before jumping in, simply because I don't have the glass. As a newcomer to filmmaking, the 8x Fixed would have made the jump easier as I have only rented or borrowed lenses in the past. It also would have been easier on the wallet not having to invest in the lenses. I guess I could still rent the lenses, but there is something said to owning and not having to "ask/pay permission".

But I look at this this way... once I've built an inventory of lenses, the Scarlet will be asked to join the toy box, and maybe one day an EPIC. Thank you for making everything interchangable and upgradeable. This will def be a help in the future. I look forward to all the footage in 2012 from both the Epic and Scarlet!

I think I saw you there at the event Phil. I was there in attendance too, and I had a blast. I was standing right behind you in line. Only asian guy there until Tonaci showed up. :)

Ah! I saw you. You should have said hi! It was neat to see some old coworkers and production friends.

I had to rush out a bit early, but I was lucky to play around with the "Clutch" rig, which is balanced really nicely. Also got to discuss some of the new Tactical DSMC gear. Sexy stuff.

My deposit has been made. I've made my decision. I have no clue what the competitors were really thinking at their price point. So strange.

Buy the camera, rent a zoom, pay off camera, and folks, really anyone complaining about this, is BLEEPING CRAZY... Look what Canon came out with... Two Chandeliers and a piece of plastic.

No argument or complaining here. I certainly am not investing in any other camera than RED at this point. Lenses first, RED second. Your suggestion may very well be the route I choose to go, but up until today, I thought I was getting a cinema quality lense for under 10k and a Scarlet free ;)

Hi Jim,

If we order the Scarlet-X AI-Canon Mount Package within the next few days, do you think it will still ship in December, or too early to tell?

Really great Scarlet upgrade! 3k just isn't enough. I like the concept of it being epic's little sister. Hoping to purchase soon!

Damn it. Now you go and make a camera I really want, I can still afford but is outside my zone of... 'oh, I'll just drop that on a piece of kit'.

And +1 one on the would have bought the 2/3 8-fixed. The DoF and especially the frame rate advantage would have been just awesome... Must be a real pain in the -CENSORED- to run into a wall during lens development.

You will make you money back - quickly ... You will lose work and experience if you don't get this camera, the price will keep going up, people who get here first get it cheaper.

As everyone has already said, a stellar product all around. I don't need to expand on that.

Disappointed about the 2/3" cancelation. Scarlet-X is great for most purposes but I wished for something with a long range fixed lens in a small package. Something good for deep/infinite focus in low light, something with a greater battery life. Something to replace the Sony EX1R but with a greater resolution and most importantly, RAW. But I completely understand why that is not here and won't complain. I am sure RED are a million times more disappointed than I am about the lens issues. Still hoping the 2/3" Scarlet could release in some form, but won't hold my breath.

I am willing to bet Canon will sell dozens of times more of the lenses announced today than the camera.
