  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SCARLET ANNOUNCEMENT - Feedback

Very excited. 120fps at 2k... completely impossible?

Thanks Jarred looks like a handy tool, I dont have an iphone though, looks like I need to do some more shopping :)

So Jarred, based on the orders placed so far, how bad is the backorder for Scarlets as of RIGHT NOW?!?!

;)

Wow. Wow. Wow.

I stand corrected.

I expected a 3k, 2/3" Scarlet.

I said it was far fetched to expect an 4K, S35 true DSMC

I was wrong.

I never expected Scarlet and Epic-S to merge together into one beautiful creation.

I will never again underestimate this company. You have all of my love, respect and $ for life. Rock on!

So awesome. I really like the gray. Will you possibly make some gray accessories?

Can anyone address what happened to the Fixed Scarlet? It seems like I'm in the minority here, but I loved everything about that camera.. the 16mm look, 3k res, 120 fps, and most of all, the amazing zoom lens. I would have paid $12k or 15k easily for that camera. Does it exist at all anymore? Is that zoom lens still alive, and will it be an option to buy later? I would buy the Scarlet-X in a second if I knew I would have that lens as an option for it.

I love RED and all, but this really just seems like an announcement for the Epic-S, and not the Scarlet Fixed that so many of us have been waiting for for years.

Pretty much sums up my feelings too. I'm rather sad to see the original Scarlet concept killed. Scarlet-X is a great camera, but not the one i wanted. I guess i'll just keep on renting cameras on as-needed basis.

WOW RED - just WOW!! You really did this one right! The way you've leveraged what you have with Epic and made it work for Scarlet is perfect! The economics make solid sense, I can see it in every detail and design choice. Jolly good show! Seriously!

I was ready to accept the 2/3" fixed model, gladly, but it had compromises. I wouldn't be as able to pull off a shallow DOF when I wanted it; I feared for the low-light sensitivity, which is a big one for me - I always end up taking photos in dark places for some reason; I would have to forgo being able to swap lenses, although a quality fixed zoom is very useful for a broad range of applications; the different chassis would - at some point - have made accessories not compatible. The smaller sensor would have worked in my favor when there was no focus puller handy, or in fast-paced run-and-gun situations, but the advantages of the new configuration far outweigh this. Even the price hike from the planned $6k-ish is OK - it will be a scrape for me, but I can still just barely make it happen without waiting (and there is no argument over the amazing value!). Sure it puts it just out of reach for many, but it is not impossible to save up a little more if that's the case.

The new Scarlet is welcomed with open arms and a big dorky smile! For me and my intended applications, the new specifications of Scarlet are nearly ideal, and it's come so much closer to what I was looking for in a camera. It's truly worthy of the DSMC moniker now: shooting 5K stills, and replacing much of my DSLR use; 4K video of the same lofty quality we love; it even delivers the 120fps framerate at a useful resolution that I wouldn't hesitate to put into an HD production. Building on the Epic chassis and form-factor makes this fully a part of the Red modular ecosystem, too. Great stuff! It's a bit sad to see the badass quasi-military-alien industrial design toned down, but it's a sensible cost-saving measure, and the look is nothing short of pro.

I am, as always, impressed. And "impressed" is just not a strong enough word. Floored. Good work RED!! You've made the five year wait worth every minute, and I look forward to a bright future shooting with this camera. You'll have a special place in every credit roll. From the bottom of my heart, and I hope I can say it to each of you in person some day, THANK YOU.

:cheers2:

HOW ABOUT WE ALL FUCKING ONE MORE TIME HEAR IT FOR THEM BOMB SQUAD REPS PAST AND PRESENT... RYAN YOU ARE THE BEST, KRIS HIS EVIL TWIN JUST AS GOOD! ... Seriously amongst the craziness and my computer going all Matrix on me Kris got back to me just to check in, and thank you for making my dreams come true over and over again.

Mr. LAND, and Mr. JANNARD -- I love you! A future unknown due to health reasons, but what these next 8 months will be like, and what they will be like if my surgery has no issues.

Best

It is an absolutely amazing piece of equipment. Especially for the price. The Canon is a joke in comparison. I'd be surprised if the Sony F3 sales don't drop through the floor. I have to say I was looking forward to a pair of fixed lens 2/3 sensored cameras though. Maybe it doesn't fit into the product line anymore, but if it does, I'd be down for those for sure. I'll order one of these as soon as some billing comes in.

THANK YOU!!!

This is why Red is the greates company in the world! They listen to there users and potential users to develop the best product possible! After a long 2+ years and even longer month, and hour in a half trying to place my order haha I can finnaly exhale in knowing my dream camera is on its way! Thank you Red!!!

And by the way, it feels great to be buying American made products from true Americans :) You guys rock!

My thoughts: I think potential Scarlet customers won the day in spades. I think RED made a wise decision in making their cameras use the same accessories. I think Epic owners like myself are probably curious to see (aside from knowing the frame rate difference) just how much the lower data rate truly affects quality. I think some prospective Epic customers might be sweating a little bit and wanting to shift their orders over.

I think the Canon primes might make some interesting lenses for Scarlet (the zooms are surely out of the price range) - but they're not out until mid july.
