SCARLET ANNOUNCEMENT - Feedback

Scarlet Announcement for me equal - SO GLAD I INVESTED IN EPIC., WHEW ;)

PS I ordered 3 Scarlet X ti Canon packages 1/2 an hour ago :P

Thank you so much Jannard, Jarred and all the team. You guys are incredible! You have made history and achieved something truly monumental here. I have placed my order. I look forward to owning a red camera, as opposed to working with them! It opens up so many options that were not open to me previously, like taking it to the Arctic next time that I go. I go for long periods (5+ weeks) and so a rental would not be a feasible option. Delighted with Jarred's freezing test. That seriously inspires confidence!!

Sorry if you guys didn't like what I had to say but that's my honest feedback.

If the sensor upgrade brings 120fps in a useable resolution we might revisit the Scarlet but until then, it was fun while it lasted...

What are you buying instead ?

Thank you RED, Jim, Jannard and the whole Red Team.
I had been awake whole night (much to my wifes dismay) expecting some teasers and to know the Scarlet update as soon as it was announced. However the server crash disappointed me as I was not able to get direct updates from you folks.

Nevertheless Scarlet-X is definitely a masterpiece and you have crushed the Canon EOS C300 to death just after it's birth.

As a long-time lurker since the 3K for 3K days I will come out of the shadows briefly to join the list of those that think the camera you announced tonight is a great product and a great value for those that want what it can do. Unfortunately that isn't the camera that I've been waiting for and it makes me sad that the 8x fixed version that I saw at NAB can't be purchased. I too had my credit card at the ready but the loss of 120fps and a high quality electronically controlled 8x zoom lens has me stunned. If you don't want to make that camera could you allow somebody else to make it? Please don't take this message as a negative one, but as an encouragement that you had a great production tool that lots of folks wanted to put to use. Any plans to offer an 8x ENG/EFP style zoom lens in the near future?

Andrew

How much recording can you fit on a 64G REDMAG? Any charts for this?

THANK you Jim and Jarred. with scarlet announcement you have proved again that you care for ordinary passionate people. well done. there is no known match for scarlet on planet Earth. Your generosity, care and kindness will always be remembered by all of us. you gave us more than we asked for. In my opinion its a very good idea to go for bigger sensor and higher bit rate. you made a very humble and wise decision. Thank you for spending all those countless hours(without sleeping) you spent listening to our needs and demands. God bless you all.

Heartily agree!

Can anyone address what happened to the Fixed Scarlet? It seems like I'm in the minority here, but I loved everything about that camera.. the 16mm look, 3k res, 120 fps, and most of all, the amazing zoom lens. I would have paid $12k or 15k easily for that camera. Does it exist at all anymore? Is that zoom lens still alive, and will it be an option to buy later? I would buy the Scarlet-X in a second if I knew I would have that lens as an option for it.

I love RED and all, but this really just seems like an announcement for the Epic-S, and not the Scarlet Fixed that so many of us have been waiting for for years.

I really commend you guys for keeping the Scarlet production in the US!

Vince, how much the card holds depends on your compression ratio and resolution. I think Ryan E. Waters made a chart a while back... somewhere...

And thank you to you Sam. I wish you make your dream project using one of the Red's product.

To Jim, Jarred, and the Red team,
just have to say thanks. The decisions you made were absolutely the right ones.
- S35 size sensor? Check.
- 18 stops of DR with HDRx? Check
- 4K resolution (and more)? Check
- Include Canon Mount Standard Option? Check
- Capable of shooting a feature film with no compromises? Check

And then on top of all that you made it much more affordable than I thought it would be.

Much Respect.

If I hadn't needed to spend a ton of money the last few months to move to be closer to my family (my dad has had some medical problems and needs some help) I would still have all the money I saved for the last 3 years in my scarlet fund and would have ordered one tonight. However, I'm going to bust my butt some more, save up and be able to order one in the next few months (God willing). Thanks so much for allowing an independent filmmaker to do what would have been absolutely impossible at this price point 24 hours ago, let alone 5 years ago. The change you have brought to this industry is astounding.

Impressive news today, unfortunately a shooting package with zoom lens puts it into the $15-$20k range and way beyond my needs.

What you guys would charge to part with your Scarlet-Fixed prototypes? :-)

Vince and anyone else interested, a Great App is KataData ($4.99 on App store)...choose media size, choose cam, compression, res, and frame rate, and updates in real time depending on the choices. It is Great!

Placed my deposit and I am so pumped, now I just have to convince my wife that selling a large amount of Apple stock was worth it!

Red team, I know so many people have said it before, but Thank you so much for all the hard work that you put it! This announcement and everything you do blows me away.

Jarred, I'm not complaining, and would take ANY color, but any possibility we can get a Scarlet-X not in grey??

Dear Jarred and Jim, and everyone else.

Wow.

Just wow guys.

Unprecedented features, unprecedented pricing, unprecedented quality, unprecedented "feeling"

Hats off to you all.

No wonder you were so excited.

Of course, all this got me thinking - damn - those 2/3rd inch prototypes are _RARE_ now. Those are going to be worth like a gajillion dollars to collectors some day.

Hopefully I'll be wealthy enough to have some coveted bits of history when I'm an old man.
