SCARLET ANNOUNCEMENT - Feedback

Thank you guys so much for this. Beyond my wildest expectations. In creating this camera and offering it at this price point you've opened up a myriad of opportunities for so many people. Thank you for that.

I just placed my order for the complete package with the Canon Ai mount. Any (slim) chance this will get preferential treatment due to it being a complete package or can I expect mine after Dec. 1st the same as the other Ai's in the line-up? Just curious.

Also, I too am curious if the RedMote is included in the package or not. Either way, I'll have one soon enough.

Thanks again. Couldn't be more thrilled.

I have to say that I'm really excited with this. This is the true digital filmmaking revolution... Jim is going to announce something concerning Epic X tomorrow. I ordered the Scarlet but if it good news I will seriously reconsider :) . One thing is clear: My money is already through to Red. No turning back for me. Its just a question of which one suits me, my films, my ambition and my visual style better.

Thanks for empowering the filmmaker, Red Team. The Digital Cinema landscape will change forever!

Nice job Red. A very good balance. Excellent price point. Lots of features. Those that complain can shoot Panny or Sony or Canon who all have decent cameras but no scarlet.

I'm happy with the Red announcement and much less impressed by the Canon announcement.

Cheers everyone and goodnight.

The only things my Red One does that my Scarlet won't...are things I don't think my Red One does particularly well. If I could get somebody to give me $10k for my Red One M body, I'd sell it right now!

Thoughts...

1. Well done RED! Amazing price point for an S35 4K camera... I'd have bet against this. And you've made Canon look like bloody fools, although they did a pretty good job themselves going down that road without your assistance.

2. Lack of 4K/24FPS/HDRx at launch is... some concern. Don't hold back on that upgrade!

3. I really really really wish you would make the 2/3" 8x fixed at or close the original price point. I'm sure you've got your reasons, I read the first thing Jim posted in the announcement thread, but I would have preferred that camera. And if you still make it, I'll buy it in a hot second. Think on this, seriously... quite a few people in this thread have already voiced that view. I know, I get it totally, the 4K vision thing, but that was *such* a sweet camera, a real swiss army knife.

4. Is Nikon mount still slated for production in December?

Congratulations again!

Mike

Manfrotto PRO 100... nice head.
Thanks Jarred! That's another great thing about this system. As much as I lover the big Sachtler, O'Connor and Ronford Baker heads, being able to run with a smaller cheaper fluid head is a big advantage at times.

Mike - I moved $12K into my bank account tonight because I was so convinced there would be the Scarlet that Ted has been sporting around. I am with you. For me the Scarlet Fixed was nirvana and I admit to be blown away that it wasn't offered as an option. As it stands, I guess I have until the end of the year to decide on Scarlet X at intro pricing.

Totally with you, Jeff. Scarlet-X is a fabulous camera but I really wanted the high frames rates and more usable HDRx... Never one to be all that enamored with shallow DOF, I think it's going to take a couple days to adjust my thinking.

Love what RED did with Scarlet-X. But I still think the fixed-lens model had a lot of potential utility for ENG/EFP applications. All things considered, I think the Scarlet-X makes the most sense, given the current market. It has a nice balance of features for a < $15K ready-to-shoot price.

Frist off: the new Scarlet is an amazing camera at an amazing price. If you were looking for a professional camera, you couldn't ask for more. And as happy as I am that it is a serious camera, I am bummed that we aren't getting the 2/3" camera with interchangeable mini primes.

Now, before everyone jumps down my throat, let me explain. The 2/3" 3k offered more than enough resolution for 90% of content that you would shoot, in a very small package. It would also have made for a terrific package for travel and experimental shoots, where weight and bulk are a premium. It would intercut with Red ONE and Epic much better than any other camera out there. For me the big point was the ability to put together a very small 3D package and have the cameras side by side. But most importantly it would have had the amazing support of Red and the Red RAW.

Any chance we could still have the little bad-a** camera too?

Heh heh... Scarlet Extreme Testing... From +50C to below -20C and then back again... without skipping a beat.

RED does it again. I know it's still going to be out of reach for some people, but 4K at under 10 grand is huge. I wasn't expecting this at all, but they absolutely made the right choice. I'm not sure how anyone could take Canon's announcement seriously at this point.

It was great to see so many old RED friends at the event tonight, and just absolute fun to be a part of RED history in the making once again. I think Jim was right when he said this is the biggest announcement RED will make... the doors have just been blown open.

Thanks for the awesome day...it was a challenge to get my deposit in but I did. Now I'm just waiting to become an official Red owner.

Well done Red, nice announcement

LOL @ extreme testing, "look a frozen scarlet"

Jarred, am I correct in reading that the Scarlet is grey? If so, will their be accessories that come in that same finish as opposed to the black of the Epic?

Thanks!

Flawless victory on this new Scarlet. Extremely well played, Red.

I know 15 people who bought the Scarlet tonight. I don't know a single person planning to buy the Canon camera.
