  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet (and shipping) announcement Nov. 3rd...

I could be mistaken, but I believe the last time capabilities were discussed specifically audio recording was supposed to be 48bit/96kHz and phantom power was built-in as well. So Scarlet's audio features should be rather robust too.

Totally and I remember. And those specs are what I'm after. I'm just curious to see what will be in there. We already know what the competitors will do and have done.

I think the big shocker with Scarlet could indeed be resolution, color, and fps. If everybody else sticks to 1080p/4:2:2/max 60fps with their future announcements and Red moves forward with 3k or 4k, raw (we know that), and anything past 60p at full resolution; Red could indeed steal the prom queen on prom night.

Also to note, as somebody who has used HDSLRs for feature film use, I'm exceedingly happy that soon I won't have to deal with the nonsense it takes to make that material decent enough for projection. Saving me time, headaches, and money. I like the form factor, lens options, price; but that damn h.264 codec makes me cry in my sleep.

Haaaaaaaaaa..., (that’s so funny, but sad, but too true). The tyranny of the “h.264” “codec”...

That would be a terrific break.

You mean none of it is true?!?

However, I wonder if it was the suggestion of 5k and other things that might have triggered Jim’s comment that wild speculation is bad for your health…

i'm pretty certain it was because my predictions were bang on and he is worried I know too much.... After reading my tea leaves today, I correctly predicted that I am allergic to tea and spent 2 hours pacing up and down the room. what can I say, I have a gift.

That’s super funny, I laughed a lot.

When you first posted the 5k thing I thought, yeah.. that’ll get them, I was almost going to post ...Yeah I don’t think that is out of the realm of possibility… all optimistic and enthusiastic…then I had to slap myself around the head a couple of times and go.. “Eric get a grip…for bleeps sake…”

Well there you go… proof that REDUSER really is bad for your mental health… (as if we needed any)..

We actually are thinking that Scarlet could turn into a 1080P camera... since the "other guys" are saying that 1080P is good enough.

But, of course, it would be a 360 degree virtual reality view at 120 fps constant speed and a fixed f/.95 12-300 zoom lens !! :yikes:

(1080, obviously - that's good enough)

Many of those "other guys" haven't even made a real 1080p camera yet. And here you have all the experience of bleeding edge tech, years of R&D, high quality 5k, not to mention a proven and supported raw format. Advantage Red.

That’s funny, what sounds like severely punitive action on REDUSER is what the “other guys” want to give you (with a sh*t eating grin)…

Let's hope Jim is in a real good mood on Nov 2nd before he changes his mind..scary stuff..

Make sure Jim gets some of jay B’s “special” tea leaves…come Nov 2nd and 3rd..

That's why I'm just going to be happy to get into the RED system with a Scarlet as previously specified. RAW, 3K, 120 fps, great native dynamic range, and HDRx? And the ability to upgrade to an Epic someday using all the same accessories? Anything more really is just gravy.

I feel the same way. RAW 3K @ 120 fps still sounds as amazing as it did when I first heard it.

Unrealistic Speculation usually leads to disappointment. And don't blame it on RED because from day one the only specs they have been talking about are 3k, RAW, 120fps and the addition of HDRx.

And if thats what the final specs turn out to be, it will be met with open arms from me.

So the price is going to be British now? I'm not very familiar with their currency. How many five pence (5p) coins do I have to save up in order to have the 1080p required to buy the 3K Scarlet? How much is that in "two bobs" or tuppences?

Another beauty of RED. What you see is what you get, and what you get is the lion's share. 3072 x 1620 means exactly that.

If this Canon camera does in fact have a S35 4K sensor it will most likely record 1080, (according to rumors). Sounds suspiciously like an "8K camera" which actually records 4K. Everyone else has to double their efforts to try and keep up with RED.

Speculation is pointless this close, but its good to keep the imagination well-oiled.

1080p that's nearly eleven quid.

Sure!!!! You guys have way too much Dignity for that!

Sad part is, even if Scarlet was 1080p, RAW, HDNRx, and 120 fps.

It would still be better than most anything out, even on the pro level.

And for the right price it would still be tempting.

I know you're joking, but if Red sold a 1080p Scarlet for the same money as a hacked Pnasonic GH2, I'd have to order 4...

Might as well slap on a sign and call it a SONY.:banghead:

In response to RED, Canon has hired a new spokesperson for their November 3rd announcement. They said he had a position with the previous Iraqi government.

Canon Information Minister said:
There are no American infidels in camera manufacturing. Never! On November 3rd they are coming to surrender or be burned in their Oakley sunglasses. We have already destroyed two cameras, two lenses, and their shovels - we have driven them back.

Our initial assessment is that aliasing problems will all die. I can say, and I am responsible for what I am saying, that line skipping has started to commit suicide under the walls of Canon. No I am not scared of Scarlet, and neither should you be! My feelings about RED - as usual - we will slaughter them all!

We are not afraid of compression problems. Canon has condemned them. They are stupid -- (dramatic pause) -- and they are condemned. Now even RED is under siege. We are hitting them from the north, east, south and west.
