  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet (and shipping) announcement Nov. 3rd...

Its all about horsepower. Porsche may be a good analogy for some to understand. You can get a "normal" 911 for less than half the price of a 911 Turbo S.

From the outside.. they pretty much look the same. Even very similar on the inside.

Some people are happy racing the normal 911 down the track.. it does everything they every could dream of.

But then there are some people that absolutely 100% need the Turbo, they need the extra speed. they need the extra torque. They just simply could not do what they need to do with the normal 911.

The 911 Turbo guys don't feel ripped off by the normal 911. The normal 911 usually inspire to move up to a turbo some day. It's a healthy co-existence.

Whats the GT2RS? The 617? Does that make the 645 the GT3?

Sorry, being a smartass right about now.

I guess my underlying point was that we might be better off dropping the "professional" reference from it, after all.

Sounds like a plan :)

This is a great analogy Jarred and hopefully shuts up all these posers stating Scarlet isn't enough. I'm perfectly happy with my standard 911 and will no doubt get another turbo down the line.

This, pretty much, should end this discussion. But, ofcourse, it won't. And that's ok. All I know is that I just need to get this "normal" camera in my hands so I can start to work really hard and bump up my abilities to use even a fraction of what it can do.

How about a birthday present?

I remember this thread as one of the greatest. It was about dreams. For some the scarlet announcement was let done, for others it was everything they want to hear. A year later I am grateful for this post. Scarlet was everything I hoped for an more. Thanks Jim!

My Scarlet fucking rocks!
But I'll be getting an Epic down the line, that's for sure.
Red fever.

Arhhh.....I remember this thread where's all the complaints about it not being a 2/3 sensor for 3K

This announcement was awesome. Due to the price change I had to wait a little longer, but I own one now! :yesnod:

Now since tomorrow is my birthday, I would love to see another awesome announcement for my birthday.

Sometimes there are moments when I cannot help myself and stray near to the point of being permanently excoriated, consigned to perdition, cast from the ranks of the realm of this forum. Maybe this is one of them but I cannot help myself so have a little sympathy for a sufferer who was the sort of kid who would blow into a dog's face and wonder why he got bitten.

There is a 2/3" Scarlett. It's called the SI2K.

There. I've gone and done it. Now to cringe with my head bent waiting for the thong to be hauled off the foot and swung by the heel, slap me down like a cockroach.

The SI2k itself finds itself with many companions such as the Blackmagic, the Digital A-cam, the Super16mm flavour of Kinor digital, the new chinese cam under final development, the digital Bolex.

Whilst a lot of R and D time and effort was thrown away with the abandonment of the original 2/3" Scarlett, there is a lot to be said for the common sense of consolidating offerings into a single platform or family of product.

One small thing I forgot to remember. Is there not the option of 2K with the Scarlett? Whilst I am not in the marketplace, too few coins of the realm and too many outgoings, it would seem that the Scarlett has within its means to be a 2/3" camera.

FOOTNOTE: I shall have to take some allergy tablets. The eyes are a bit bleary from allergy and bushfire fuel reduction burning off, such that I missed the 4K reference to a 2/3" sensor. From a technical standpoint, 4K worth of pixels on a 2/3" sensor would make each pixel rather small. Is that workable these days? I understand that the SI2K sensor which is a bit larger than 2/3" has a pixel size of 5 microns.
