  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet 8x internal 120FPS test

Nice footage..looking great...
I did a quick retime test with this footage and was able to get a nice 600fps out of it... even with the compression and the reduced size..
the Scarlet is an amazing camera :)

EPIC shoots 96fps 5K full frame and 120fps 2.40:1.

Scarlet shoots full frame 3K at 120fps with a burst mode to 160-ish.

Jim

Full frame! Awesome!

And I seem to remember that Scarlet is able to do HDRx as well, will it use the framerates like the Epic does? I mean, Epic does 96 fps without HDRx and 48 fps with it (60 fps in 2:40:1).
Will Scarlet be able to do 60 fps full frame HDRx and burst 80 fps HDRx? Would be awesome for fire and explosions.

Makes me think now.. do I even worry about getting EPIC's at all....mmmmmm?????

If you get such great frames per second and clarity from the Scarlet, why invest in EPIC.

Great test, I'm really impressed.

As with all tools, what are you going to use it for? I think that some spend a little too much of their own money getting an Epic. If they are established in the film industry, then that might be a good investment, but if you want to make your own movie, maybe even your own feature film, then why the epic?
Buy a Scarlet, with necessary accessories to do a small production, then take the rest of the money and put into a production, make a movie, get distribution and when you are established make a movie with the Epic. I think that many dream and think they will be making "the big picture" as long as they got the best tool, but that is not true, make a long term strategy. The Scarlet is so awesome that the quality you will get on a 35mm print in cinema will be equal of any other picture that made a 2K master. And how many productions today can afford making a 4K master? I know post production houses that doesn't even bother going 4K yet, so how can I personally justify myself buying an Epic if I could buy a Scarlet and "buy" a small production for the rest of the money? I already been involved in a feature film shot on Red that has been sold to alot of countries around the world and still wasn't made for more then $100 000. So buying a Scarlet could make the dream come true while buying the Epic might give you the tool, but no production and nothing to shoot.
In the independent filmmaker perspective, Scarlet is the perfect choice.

Whoohoo so great footage.
It took some time to download, "server overloaded". So great to see so much people interested in the scarlet 8x (cheers to red).

Is it safe to say.. "Scarlet 8x is like an Alexa with a fixed lens"... I really would love to believe that!!! :-D
(I hope that the last statement doesn't piss people off..hehehehe)

Twixtor loves the extra pixel information with all RED footage.. it really helps make the blends more accurate specially Twixtor Pro where you are working with Object separation and tracking points.

Alexa can't do 60 fps 3K with HDRx or 120 fps 3K 13 stops... not 35mm FF, but it sure has specs that Alexa don't.

That was what I was very ..very..very careful pointing out .. ;-) There are some very exciting times to come!!

(Just to be safe I personal aspect the scarlet 8x shipping about January, just to keep peace of mind..hehe works for me)

That 8x Scarlet... remembering Ted saying how someone's gonna shoot a feature on it that wins awards. Pretty clear it'll happen with this tool, now.

Dumbing down specs is kind of the anti-philosophy at RED.

Jim

Sorry Jim. What was I thinking? - I'm so excited by the Scarlet Fixed (and Cinema) To have tools of this calibre along with RED RAY will be such a boon to my work. That fixed lens is really gonna surprise a lot of people. Thanks for doing what no other company would.

Adam

Jarred - Since nobody else asked, maybe I missed something but, just to be completely clear... all three cams were Scarlet, yes? :bigear:

I don't want my EPIC-M no more, I'll get 16 Scarlet fixed instead... after waiting forever for my EPIC-M to arrive, I may as well wait a little longer right? :)

Awesome job on shooting this Jarred. Really.

Not a silly thought...

THIS IS FREAKING AWESOME !!!

Love the music. Works PERFECT with the rest.

Jarred, please shoot a feature movie ASAP ! :-)

I have been following you guys for years and this is the first time i felt compelled to join the conversation. That was truly amazing.

Rory's manager to Rory :

" You need to go up to the studio tomorrow and push your boss and an incredibly expensive prototype Scarlet on a dolly as fast as you can for 130 feet right towards a brick wall, make sure you stop a foot before the wall but no sooner or you will ruin the shot. Sound good...? Oh yeah, it will be too dark to see the crossbars on the tracks your running along so keep those knees up because if you fall Jarred and Scarlet will die :) "

Heh heh.. poor Rory. He has been with us less than a month. The day of the shoot was the first time we actually met. What a Rockstar.

I soo wish I was Rory right now.:coolgleamA:
