  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet 8x internal 120FPS test

Another question for Jarred...

Is the zoom function (and iso/shutter etc) controllable via the redmote?

Lens control would be seriously cool.

of course.. thats what the rocker and scroll wheels are for on the REDMOTE :)

Got 120fps working in the Scarlet 8x prototypes this week

You are talking about prototypes. So there is more than one RED Scarlet 8x.
Do they also have special names like the RED ONEs and RED EPICs ?

If the Scalet Interchangable / Cinema is still a go, would there be a similar amazing example?

Without getting into Scarlet, I love the shot. Everything about it, it's construction, composition, timing and execution, and especially that it's a single shot. Excellent stuff, Jarred and crew!

Would love to see a 3K X264!

Do you mean the 2/3 interchangable or the s35?
The s35 is now named Epic-S.

As for the fixed lens, will there be a type of protective clearglass that could be screwed onto the lens so that we never risk damaging the lens itself? Much like on a still photography lens as you probably throw your still camera around in harsh situations. I have a UV protective glass on all my canon lenses, so it would be nice to have one on the Scarlet... if you damage the fixed lens then that would be a headache. This protective glass isn't something expensive, around $30 (and you should be able to put the lens cap on while the protective glass is on).

No, hes referring to 2/3 cinema. which was going to be the version of the Fixed lens without the lens on it. If you were at NAB you saw those little mini prime prototypes, thats what those lenses are for...if im not mistaken.

Yup I certainly was referring to 2/3 interchangable. I saw images of the mini-prime prototypes (they look sweet!), but there seems to be very little information regarding this particular flavour of Scarlet..

Ted was doing a Q and A online at NAB, and I asked about it, and it has the back-burner now(2/3 interchangeable)... :'( thats what im waiting for...fixed lens is sweet and all, but...yeah I want some prime lenses on that puppy! :D :D

I totall agree - I'm looking forward to the options of some fast mini-primes to go with 120 frames of fun!

Great video guys, and the music sent chills up my spine, or was that the Scarlet footage? By the way how many takes?

I don't remember seeing this addressed before so I will ask. Is there any kind of image stabilization on the fixed version for "run and gun" applications?
I am glad to see some updates being released on the site lately, it helps keep our hopes up and quite entertaining.
Thanks and keep up the amazing work.

It almost converted me! I originally planned to buy just a Scarlet, when I started researching this last year.

But, having shot with an EPIC and played with the footage, I can really appreciate the stills possibilities of the bigger sensor. I can justify the outlay. What I'd like is for RED to blast through Stages 2 & 3 as soon as possible, which will get me my EPIC, give me time to rebuild my bank balance - then buy a Scarlet as soon as they hit the market, as a B camera, or as an ultra-light camera for situations where I can't justify, or risk, or carry the weight of, a full EPIC rig.

Mike

Mike I think for what we do, both camera in the bag will be the best option. For night shots of volcanos I think the full frame Epic sensor will be best, but I'm very happy by what I'm seeing in scarlet. The mini primes will also be great to have to cut weight down when hiking to remote spots. I can wait to use the 120fps on explosive volcanos. Wish I had this at Krakatau last year. Sept will be a good month if they ship in great numbers. Not sure when the cinema version detachable lens will come. I just wish they'd move production in front of the 8x.
