Haha, I was typing the exact same thing! Except I spelled "they're" right....Their purty. :ihih:
RED Pro Primes (RPPs)
5 lens set- $19K
(25mm T1.8, 35mm T1.8, 50mm T1.8, 85mm T1.8, 100mm T1.8)
6 lens set (adds 300mm)- $23K.
Anyone who buys a "set" gets all future RPPs at the "set price" for that lens. Not all future lenses will be the same price.
Individual lens prices are as follows:
25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 100mm- $4250
300mm- $5975K
18-85mm T2.9 Pro Zoom- $9975K
18mm T1.8 (in rapid development)- $3800 (set price) and $4250 individual price
Other lenses are under development are a 14mm, a 21mm, and a 65mm.
Jim
Why not a 4 lens set without the 100mm for $15,000?
You'd have more customers.
how will these work as it relates to different sensor sizes of the current upcoming red cameras
Based on recent comments and some numbers posted way back with the initial Scarlet / Epic announcments, the RPP's should cover about 4.5~4.7K on the FF35 monstro sensor. Still nothing to sneeze at!!! And if the mount swapping is as easy as claimed with auto back-focus adjustments, then switching over to RED electronic lenses or Nikon, etc... for FF35 coverage up to 6K should be no big deal.
EDIT> Jim also stated before that the 300mm will cover FF35 or full 6K Monstro.
Never mind, I just confirmed that for myself. However, my understanding of the consequences of the smaller image circle needs to be double checked.
A lens casting a 32mm image circle on a S35 imager should give you similar depth of field characteristics as a 35mm lens casting an image circle on a 35mm imager. Correct?
Jeff... I think you are about right. Actually, a few of the RPPs will go out well past 32mm but shooting 4.75K will be the safe way with Monstro. Then, the question will be is it better to shoot 4.75K with no breathing or 5K with a still lens?
