Hi Guys,
my Rokinon Cine Primes arrived today and I thought I ll post a quick first impression of those lenses.
I got:
14mm T3.1
24mm T1.5
35mm T1.5
85mm T1.5
not exactly my ideal choice, instead of the 35mm I rather would have had a 50mm but ok.
After having a first play with them this afternoon I have to say these lenses are really well built. The aperture and focus rings move very smooth and with a nice resistance. The markings are very bright and clear to read, even though a little small. The lenses have more weight to them than what appears on first sight, especially because they are quite small compared to other lenses.
Unfortunately the weather has been horrible today so I only had a couple of minutes between thunderstorms and torrential rain to run across the road and set up this unfortunately, not very impressive shot, but I hope it is enough to get a first idea. Better footage will follow on the weekend (yes that means Bikini Girls & Skintones ^^).
Everything was shot in 5K - 4:1 at 1/50 shutter, the images are straight out of the camera and completely unaltered apart from RedcinX Tiff -> JPeg conversion, there are R3D downloads for each shot as well:
My cat Anakin shot on the 35mm indoors at around T5.6
14mm Lens
14mm R3D
24mm Lens
24mm R3D
35mm lens
35mm R3D
85mm Lens
85mm R3D
85mm Lens wide open
85mm R3D
Here is a comparison of what the biggest lens in the kit (35mm) looks like next to the 24-70mm F2.8 Canon:
The only real negative thing I can mention so far are the friggin lens hoods, they are extremely fiddly and dont fit very nice.
When it comes to value for money, I dont think one can go wrong with these lenses. They seem soft on the wide end but considering a whole kit of those is less than a single Cp2, once stopped to around 2.5 they give very nice results.
