  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RELEASED: Pro Battery Module (Quad) and Module Adaptor

Sorry, Stage 2 package is what it is - we cannot accommodate swaps, logistical nightmare on a bundle like that.

Yes, Rory, we took into account Stage 3 demand in our supply chain planning...

I definitely know what you are saying, as the owner of (8) Anton Bauer Dionic batteries. :001_smile:

My guess is: One advantage will be for younger Scarlet owners who don't have the cash yet to invest in a larger brick battery system. When you go that direction, you never spend less than $2000-$3000, and often more. Perhaps their Redvolts will be able to do double duty in the side handle and also in more of a studio configuration.

I've been doing the math on powering Scarlet for a while. Came to the conclusion that the most flexible and cost effective solution would be a Side Handle with a few Red Volts, and a back plate (either Wooden Camera of ViewFactor's) using either V-mounts or ABs. Considering the cost of this new module, that's still the case. It is still cheaper, and still hot-swappable, to go with a WC or VF V-Mount or AB system, with a RedVolt or two in the Side Handle.

And I also don't see the point of the Adapter Module. All it's doing is putting the battery module further out, which adds torque, effectively making the dang thing heavier, so I can't imagine it's for added support. As near as I can tell from the images and video, it just mimics the back of the Epic/Scarlet. I hate to be such a pessimist, but all it seems to add is a locking mechanism on the bottom, and yet it is "required". I would love someone to help me see why this setup isn't as silly as I think it is currently. Because I find it surprising that a different locking mechanism couldn't have been somehow built in, seeing as how both WC and VF have figured out ways of doing just that.

Sorry to ask perhaps what has been asked far too often, but...

When is the Pro I/O Module going to be in the Red store?

Woo Hoo! Nice to hear it is all coming together. Can't wait for mine to arrive.

+1 on this post. I would love to hear the rational of going down this road especially if the side handle can handle hot-swapping with external bricks.

Brent, do you have weight and size specs for the quad and the dual battery modules?
Also, if I receive a Stage 2 Quad notice, is it possible to pass on that and trade for the first of the Dual units in March?

+1 on that idea. Hopefully the dual would be less expensive. I could use a credit to my account :)

Does anyone know if the DUAL will REQUIRE the Module adaptor? Seems like the dual will weigh less and therefore be a better option and with the side handle, will have three that can be swapped out faster on set. Since the charge curve is steep, then you could get more power into many smaller batteries than one big one charging. right?

and it seems like you get just about the same wattage out of the two red volt pack AND you get a charger; or is my math wrong?

Agreed... Which is kind of why I will now refer to the adapter module as the "WTF Module" :biggrinjester:

I'm sure the Red design team wouldn't just add a device just for nothing.

The whole RedVolt system is unknown without details of the Quad Charger. Not knowing how long batteries take to charge makes it hard to work out the real world practically of the system.

There is a lot of missing information on the Red system and I'm sure information will come when they have time.
Until then we just have to wait. And appreciate that they might know what they are doing.

Ordered one, for what its worth. Wont need to worry about paying for it for some time I guess. In the meantime, two of our cameras are stage 2 so 2 out of 4 aint bad!

Take a side handle, the quad module and a V mount APU-IDX from Brook together and you get a very nice balanced camera for handheld shooting with about 5hrs of runtime :)

I think this setup with V-Mount, Side Handle, Quad Module and Shoulder Pad will be my standard configuration for 90% of my jobs

Guys, the Module Adaptor contains the module quick release system... That is its purpose.

The camera has 4x M4 threaded holes on the back but no quick release system - putting the QR system in the body would've increased size considerably.

Modules attach to the module adapter [and each other] with a sort of "tongue and post" mechanical locking mechanism, similar in concept to how the Side Handle attaches to the camera body.

The Module Adapter contains the female locking parts of this mechanism. Each subsequent module also includes this mechanism on the rear face.
