  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RELEASED: Pro Battery Module (Quad) and Module Adaptor

Dont forget Redvolt XLs, though, wattage equivalent of 3 redvolts. If you're using the side handle with a few volts, you could go with a single quad charger, maybe 2-3 redvolts for the side handle, and 4 XLs and you've got a ton of power.

So the XL's are 90wh? 'cus if that's the case that's actually pretty nice, especially if you aren't going side handle.

I'm still now leaning towards a V-Mount system for two reasons: 1. D-Tap, and 2. Compatibility with other cameras. That's something that I hadn't thought about until just now, but it seems to be an important factor. With REDvolts, you can only use them with RED cameras (of course). Whereas V-Mount batteries can be used to power practically any camera.

Not to mention if you have a battery go bad, or lose one or all of them or whatever, you can get them from pretty much any rental house/production equipment shop. Same with Anton Bauer...

I'm getting a bag of Redvolts (start with 12) and a V-mount plate (VF or WC, haven't decided yet) for those situations when a job requires V-mount batteries, or emergency situations like the one described above.

For my personal projects though it'll be Redvolts + Sidehandle + Dual Battery Module all the way. I just love the portability aspect of the whole "DSMC/4K in the palm of your hand" concept and V-mount batteries don't really fit into it.

Are Redvolts XL's twice the width of the Redvolts? Basically 2 redvolts side by side? If so there's no chance they can be used in the side handle... For all those purchasing the quad modules what D-tap solutions are you getting? I know the pro i/o module will provide power but the early pictures shown of that thing make it look almost as long as the quad bat module...Is there a stealth d-tap solution out there?

Wondering the the same. Got to be possible to have a 12V out of the quad. Thats all thats needed for FF and on board extra monitors etc. It would suck if the camera had to become 2 modules long to get the power socket.

Question? would it be possible for red to reprogram the camera later so it feeds power out of any of the other connections if wanted.

If not I might modify our Quad module so one of the RED volts goes to a power out. Hate to have the extra monitor on top with a back heavy battery. We ordered so we have 3x4 revolts and it would be much nicer if it all was packed into the camera. Thinking of making a swat rail with built in 12v out to go on top of the quad.

The logical place would be to add the dtap at the Q/R adapter. It would be nice if Red develops a modified Q/R adapter that includes a D-tap solution. I suppose a third party couldn't possible develop a solution without infringing on Red's patents (re: the pin configuration of the modules)

Yes. You can fit 4 regular Redvolts or 2 Redvolt XLs in a Quad charger. The XL won't fit in the sidehandle.

So just out of curiosity, why are you deciding to go with the Dual rather than the Quad Pro Battery Module? Do you find the Quad to be too large?

Also, does anyone know when the REDvolt XLs are being released?

Even Jarred mentioned that the dual battery is the way to go. I think it's the perfect balance of power and portability. Until they ship, I'll be using antons over the back shoulder.
