  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDUSER used to be so BAD ASS.

Since its start this has been a fantastic resource. I have learned a bunch from you guys. This business can feel so solitary too. A shared knowledge pool is so great. But I have found myself visiting less and less. Just too much noise. I am looking forward to a solution that brings back reduser to its full might and glory.

Thanks team for paying attention.

Why do we need to accomplish Luis's goals? (No offense, Luis) What I'm saying is, if Luis has need for information he can just open a thread (as he has done many times in the past) and ask for help or information from the community. Those who are familiar with Luis will respond. When a newbie opens a thread, some helpful senior members will respond and others will just ignore the thread. The opinion stuff is just for entertainment purposes. If you don't want to be entertained, don't visit anything posted in the Off Topic forum. This whole site is well-divided for the user who pays attention. It's easy to tell whose posts to follow and which threads are worth spending some time on.

This place is a thing of beauty.

(Although I still vote for Jay as Moderator.)

Couldn't agree more!

EDIT- Like someone else posted, one of the problems seems like people, including the veterans, like to press the "new posts" tab. This brings up everything "new" , including the newbie posts. Those trying to avoid the noise should simply press on their forum of choice. Problem solved.

I find the Lenses threads very useful. I think, however, a "sticky" thread for Canon Mount lenses or still lenses and another for PL would be helpful to clear repetition. As new lenses are introduced, as well as new mounts, these questions will most certainly be raised frequently. This is just a matter of better moderation.

epic/scarlet owners only forums? lol this is really funny :) %99 of Epic owners dont have experience like Gunleik and others who are working in this business for years with every kind of digital cinema cameras.hope RED DIGITAL COMPANY thinks more wiser than users and keep this forum public always.
i mean what you gonna do guys? David Mullen dont have epic or scarlet but im here because of him and few others..

Maybe part of the solution is more Moderation? I'm not implying that the moderators are not doing their job, but perhaps a stricter rule set, at least for a few months (to train the influx of newbies, who in turn will train further newbies in the future) on appropriate Forum behavior?

There are a LOT of duplicate threads, all over the place. Some get locked, many don't. There are a TON of self-serving threads (Look at this little thing that I made! Check out my new Scarlet even though it would be absurd for all 2500 new owners to make a thread like this!). There are a TON of threads-in-the-wrong-forum.

Most of what I know about working with Red, I know from these forums. From Red employees, and from other users. I try to be as helpful as possible, and to add to discussions. I recognize that I have much to learn. Very much. Absurdly much.

But I am confident in the things I say at my day job because of all the time spent on these forums. My job title is Production Assistant, but I'm treated like (and respected as) a DIT. In fact, I'm the DIT of choice for our producers. 2 years ago, I didn't know what a DIT was, or that they even existed.

I agree that the forums have degraded since the announcement of Scarlet. But I caution locking the forums off to newcomers, rather than training them up. I've been on a lot of forums, for a lot of things, for many years now. The same problems exist on every forum on the internet. The solution is always the same, though it takes a lot of consistant work: teach the newcomers how to contribute, and how to behave, and they, in turn, are the lifeblood of the forums.

The only thing that the people at Red can really do is have better moderation in place. That's it. Anything else would completely go against Jim's vision - create acamera for the masses. Change the status quo. Destroy old paradigms. He's accomplished that and much more. A basic part of this vision was to eliminate that elitist attitude, in my opinion. What did you think would happen when a professional camera was created that many more people could afford? You praise the technology, but criticize the by-product from it. You can't have it both was. I'll be the first to tell you that a lot of threads on this site are quite useless. But they have the right to post it. And that brings me back to the moderation of the site. That's how it gets resolved, because to do anything else becomes a dangerous game. If they start to segregate, or give preferential treatment, it completely goes against the original vision.

I'd really love a redwiki ... there are so many great posts that get buried. I would also like a "ignore sub-forum", for example, though the posts might be interesting to many redusers, i'm not interested in the "for sale" or WB posts. The epic vs scarlet stereotype's mentioned I don't think are valid.

Well put!

As a new member and a Scarlet owner I have to say that is tough to judge people, and the question is, should we?
There are too many variables, I have been in advertising for 19 years, 4 as a photographer and 15 as an art director, I've won several awards at Cannes, London, NY, etc. and I've learned that there's always something to learn even from interns. I have known Art Directors that have been in the business for 25 years and have not produced any work that's even worth looking at and newbies that have won Gold at Cannes with only one year on the Market. The variables are too many: guy with Epic and 20 years of work and a awful reel, guy with 5D and have been selected at Cannes, guy with Epic and great reel and tech knowledge, guy with Epic and no tech knowledge but an amazing reel, so what are we judging here? Money? Talent? Tech knowledge? All of those? Some will say all, some will say talent, some will say tech knowledge...IMHO the only thing that should be judged here are manners.

OKAY COOL DOWN EVERY ONE!!

What has been proposed here, and with a fair reasoning to it, is a EPIC OWNER'S ONLY SECTION, everyone else including Epic owners can continue to use the forum as it is, but a sectioned out partition for Epic Owners only will be nothing short of great.

Too much BS posted all over the forum lately, and too many least new comers that post new threads without bothering to search for a second, too much stuff to look thru, I'm getting busier and busier, thanks God for that, and my self, but as time gets less and less I still like to keep up with my friends here in the forum, and it has become impossible.

A Epic Owners section only, will allow to keep up with what all my fellow Epic Owners are up to, either way, I'll be doing my own Blog and community page so if it happens great if it doesn't, well I have my way either way...;)

But I also understand the complexity of moderating a forum such as what Reduser is, however as usual things get taken out of proportion, if Jim and Jarred decide to give us a section to our own good, if not we'll continue as is, and if the forum appeals people will continue to post and vista, if not will vista less and less, that simple really.

At the end the worst part is that those to loose on this will be the new comers themselves, as they will be taken away the privilege initially given by all of us in continuously sharing information and trying really hard going out of our way to help others... That is it for me, nothing to add, bets of luck.

Wow, Ketch. No offense, but you just don't get it. And wether you realize it or not that is the elitist attitude that should not be tolerated.
