Suggest a new tab at the top, next to "New Posts"…

Titled "New Classified" or "New Marketplace"

Satisfies the needs of both camps.

Agreed. I hear from folks in the Industry that RU has basically become an online Classified Ad host.

This has crossed my mind too. It looks like too many reducers are trying to dump their equipment. reducer shouldn't look like a fire sale.

That might work

Don't forget Philucation.

Phil is the MAN!! That said - he is waaaaay underutilized because there is no organized way to access the amazing work he does. RED needs to have a dedicated Director of Ed that takes the pearls that guys like Phil drops off in their posts and turn it into organized online Educational Content via a Vimeo channel. Better yet . . . model RED Online Ed after my friends site over at Lynda.com. I said this a couple years ago: I would pay a monthly subscription fee to have Phil quality content transformed through a Lynda like delivery. Then we all could access the information we need quickly and education becomes a revenue stream for RED thereby funding better content.

Education is the key to everything on this planet . . . including insuring RED continued growth

VBulletin has a feature to exclude posts per-user. For example you can exclude the marketplace or specific software sections. Just click on settings, general, new posts....

Unfortunately... It's not in the version running reduser. I messaged Jason Ramsey about this a while ago and he confirmed this. Perhaps this thread or additional discussion might encourage an upgrade.

To me it looks like a maturing of the "Obsolescence is Obsolete" marketplace as veteran users upgrade and new users are brought in. I'm still wondering if there'll ever be a better deal than the BT 4K RED ONE MX's.

I'm definitely in agreement about separating marketplace postings from the new posts filter and also from the general search functionality. I think search on this site needs a serious overhaul anyway. VBulletin search is dreadfully awful, seems many forums have replaced with a Google-based search module. From a moderator perspective, I need to look at it all anyway, or as much of it as us moderators can. But from a general user perspective, I would love to keep the marketplace and the rest of the forums separate for both post/ thread filtering and for search purposes.

First. Thank you.

Second. Interesting. I might do something a bit more "organized". It's been on my mind lately.

That's all I needed to hear Jeff. If it can be done... you're the man. Thanks

Thanks Phil. you're praise is well deserved. We need all the organization you can provide:)

I would like to know how long people like Harry Stuckey get banned from REDUSER for being a dick? Every now and again people will have a rant or carry on but does this mean you get banned for life?

And by no means am i sticking up for this guy, it was slightly entertaining at first but turned quite ugly, it seemed as though this guy stayed up for over 24hours just waiting for reply so he could start ranting again.

I hope I don't get banned for starting this thread LOL. I wasn't even complaining very hard.

Seriously ... I couldn't bring myself to read much of Harry's thread but it takes quite a bit to be exiled from reduser.

Not to speak for the mods but he was making personal attacks and in general being inflammatory and disrespectful, among other things. :out:

If there was a way to filter marketplace posts that would be a good option to have.

While I must admit that since I continuously upgrade my great to the latest version, and or buy lots of NEW gear and then sale what I don't like or doesn't fit my specific needs expectations...

I end up using the Market Place often...

Yet, I also agree that I don't want to se nothing but Market Place adds when I click in the "New Posts" section... So it will be a welcome change if it was eliminated form it... ;)

Get together with 3-5 other real smart Cineguys (with guest appearances from Toia, Grant, Agerton and other working pros) and start a paid site. I would pay $9.95 without hesitation to have the high quality testing and accurate information via RSS. If fellow professionals folk like me can't get a 10 dollah idea per month out of the site . . . they're not paying attention. I'm sure RED would have no issue with donating a banner ad on RU and keep you in the proto testing loop since this would benefit them huge.

In fact, I would be interested in being an investor and ongoing supporter (equipment / models for testing etc) of such a site. I have a Dragon and a set of Leica Cron-C's due this month and a full studio with lighting and green screen in San Diego. PM me if you want to explore this concept at any level

Complaint might be a bit strong. Let’s just call it a suggestion.

I frequent reducer everyday. The first thing I do is click on New Posts to see what is trending. It seems that, over the last year or so, the topic you are most likely to see are the want ads. Want to sell, want to buy. Don’t get me wrong. I have no problems with people wanting to make a buck or save a buck. I’m just wondering if there is a way to exclude the marketplace threads from the New Posts. If I want to buy or sell something, I know where to go.

It would just be nice to see the threads that help educate the masses rather than enrich the few.

OK. End of rant. Just my 2 cents.

1000% Agree. Drives me nuts.

I live by the "New Posts" button - and somedays you have to hunt for the good info if there are tons of FS posts.

I love that you can buy and sell stuff on RU - I have bought and sold stuff here and I think it's great that it's allowed -

Just filter out the FS threads from the New Posts button and everybody wins :)

Or maybe a single thread that automatically shows up as the first new post all the time. Every FS or WTB post is contained within that one thread. Not saying it's the best way to solve the issue, but maybe it's the easiest way?
