Hey.. some of you probably already got a surprise from your delivery guy today.. REDRAY has officially started to ship :)

And what a surprise it was! Thank you so much to Jim, Jarred, Ted, and the entire amazing team at RED!!! Pics coming soon...!!!

-------

OK, so I got home and was catching up on some things around the house, and the buzzer rings. I wasn't expecting anything, but there UPS was with a big package from RED... were the fans shipping? Top Plate? What What WHAT??? REDRAY???

We've all been waiting for this amazing piece of technology to ship, and here it was - a reality! Anyone else receive theirs yet?

I can't begin to thank everyone at RED. Knowing how passionate I was, to be selected in the first batch really means a lot to me. I've got the unit up and running, currently on my Samsung 55" 1080p, but even on THAT is looks tremendous. The <$1000 Seiki 4K will hopefully be here soon. Many more photos and a review coming soon! (Lot's to look at too, since it's preloaded with several shorts and demos, the RED 800 Reel, and test patterns!)

What an amazing surprise - this is gonna ROCK!

Jim, Jarred, Ted, Graeme, and EVERYONE at RED, thanks for seeing this through! Just the beginning...

What a coincidence. Today was the first time I saw the new Sony 4K TV on display in Best Buy. My first impression: the professionally shot 4K video looked very good. Some other 4K content looked just ok. Uprezzed content looked horrible IMHO. Maybe they should hook up a few of the REDRAYs to the televisions to do 4K proper justice.

Nice!

I so curious to see how this UHD playback battle will play out. It's so great to see Red being such a front line trooper. I would hate to be a camera manufacturer today... Just as the others started to figure out how to make almost 4k recorders, these guys release a player, it must hurt so badly.

But even if I really love having the option to get a red ray I can not help thinking that I want 4k playback straight from my computers. I ditched all my other players, tape decks, DVD players etc and with the next wave of apple workstations etc. I hope this is only the first step. That RED soon will release a VRredRay to run on qualified computers, future phones etc.

Sweet. Congrats guys. I want one. BAD.

I haven't told you what is happening for me. I'll have to give you a status update/progress report. Things are getting very interesting. Innumerable thanks gentlemen. :)

And thanks for sharing, Casey. Congratulations!

Thanks everyone... here are some more photos of the unit. The first time you boot it up, there is an initialization screen that runs for a couple minutes, then from there on, it powers up immediately.

As we've seen in demos, the interface is very clean and simple. It only took a few minutes to connect to my network, however there were no new firmware updates yet. (And I need to look into the Odemax setup). The RED 800 Reel looks better than anything I've ever screened on this Samsung 55" 1080p. I was holding off buying the Seiki 4K panel, as it's already come down to $995 on Amazon. Jarred, had I known this was dropping on my front doorstep today, I'd have ordered in time for launch! Heheheh! All good. It will be on it's way VERY Soon! (And I may borrow one until then).

Serious, though - This is amazing.

Lovely interface, lovely images...

Soon I'll be testing the RRencode Plugin within RC-X Pro and give some updates on that process...
