  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDRAY Comments

We actually solved this with the Crimson Cinema Laser Projector... we even allow DCI compliant passthrough from all those old players until they finally get rid of them :)

You guys have definitely done your homework... im sure larger content providers will want to know about HOW the DRM works. Whats to keep some projectionist to make digital copies from the RED RAY to pirated DVD's?

Jarred, love this believe me. But why no REDMAG slot? There are times when I don't want to view back R3D files on my tiny 5 inch RED touch or waste time getting it onto a CPU just to preview files. Considering the horsepower on this player it would have been nice to simply pop in the REDMAG and see a realtime scaled version of all captured content before we go to the editing phase. And only a USB 2.0 slot? I would have even hoped for a 3.0 slot so maybe we could have plugged in the standalone REDmag reader to this player and had that option for viewing R3Ds straight to TV.

DCI compliant! Just wow! Can't wait to equip our theater with Crimson and RedRay!

Wait WAit WAAAIIITTTT....

Will BOTH red projectors be just as capable? I understand one is for large venue and the other one is for the Di suite, but besides the lumens and Throw I was not expecting any other difference. Has this changed? I am expecting the DI suite PJ to be able to be DCI complaint and all the other bells and whistles... i REALLY hope that there wont be any other diferences....

I don't think it plays .R3D files. Only .RED. I'm guessing a REDRAY PRO will. We'll see...

My answer to this was to implant a different invisible watermark in each download. If pirated content shows up, you know where the content was pirated from. You could even require a theater to be bonded and if the content was pirated from their download, they forfeit the bond which could be split between content provider and ODEMAX.

But if the price to download as an individual is low enough, why buy a low-rez pirated copy?

Also wondering if anything considered a major release will be offered to theaters first before going public for individual downloads?

Big J,

I am happy for REDRAY Players release. This sounds great for all the indie movies which can be distribute directly through ODEMAX, but what about the major motion picture movies/studios? Are they supporting this? Will we see major motion movies through ODEMAX in 4k soon?

Odemax and RED are leveling the playing field. Odemax launches first by giving the independent producer, filmmaker, studio and distributor a system that will place them in the same distribution league as the major studio. Odemax is not a distributor, but rather is a distribution platform. Meaning we'll even allow the major studios to distribute their stories too, as long as they're 4K. We'll have some announcements regarding that soon.

- Only .RED and .MP4 support in the box.. Future formats it all depends.
-Yes.. it will support DPX/TIFF image sequences the day it launches ( as well as .R3D of course )

Jon, you revolutionary bastard!!! :)

How do you guys receive the master file? Encode via RCX to .RED format and upload online? How big is a 4k Master edit anyway? 18GB? Do you export that from Premiere pro?

prior to actually receiving your REDray feature master file.

Jon, Jarred:

Will you allow the current system of "clearance" to continue? I can't currently play a slew of content from indie to major studio because Downtown Independent is truly independent and doesn't have the buying power. I could list all the films we've been denied access to over the last four years but it would take all night. Continuing to help chains like Landmark keep independent cinemas from competing with them would be not-so-good. Please don't allow content provider the ability to deny acces to content unless there is a real reason to like piracy. Maintaining "Per-Screen-Average" box office returns, and fake ones here in LA at that should not be a reason to be denied access to content. If a content creator puts content on the network an exhibitor should be allowed to play it without restriction.

edit: put more clearly- If Landmark as an example, buys a redray for the NuArt, can they demand exclusive access to the films they book and prevent anybody else in LA from exhibiting that content until they were done? Because that's how it is now and it sucks.

Truly amazing. Is the only way to view content from Odemax from a REDRAY? Or can pretty much anyone view the content?

Was in reference to the RRencoder plugin, not RedRay itself.

Hey Jarred,

I'd also like to know what the state of the RED ROCKET is? Is there gonna be a new version soon? In the market for one so I wanna make a good move.

REDRAY + ODEMAX is awesome by the way.
