  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDRAY Comments

Would very much like to know the same. I was hopping the REDRAY was going to kill the Rocket card, looks like nothing has changed on the editing end for now.

Hey Jarred,

I'd also like to know what the state of the RED ROCKET is? Is there gonna be a new version soon? In the market for one so I wanna make a good move.

REDRAY + ODEMAX is awesome by the way.

Questions:

Questions:

Discuss here..... for the REDRAY announcement posted here http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?90306-REDRAY

Jarred, when the Redray projector?

Good question number two:

Both display port and HDMI are due to be replaced, with superior 4k support (hdmi only does up to 4k 30p, and who knows if we will get 8k with dp). The AV industry is also pushing for a new port. I have suggested a upgradable daughter board for the projector, but what happens with the player?

Three:

When is the software player version coming?

Four, an observation for firmware update and future product:

For digital signage, up to 9 displays is desirable. This leads to the question of simple firmware update to sync two or more players wirelessly or by USB etc.

Five:

inbuilt operating system, with open cl and gl to take advantage of the processing potential. Ubuntu and or Android. Then dynamic/educational animation content can easily be programmed in, or used as a international appliance or desktop under Ubuntu (who is also integrating their os as an Android app). This also enables app content to be sold on the network. (I.e. replace the computer too).

Thanks.

Any rough ETA (i.e. quarter) on the RED 4k projectors ... i have been looking at the 4k tv's, but they are not compelling. I have also been looking at the new laser(mixed laser/led) for blu-ray, but again not exactly compelling(but getting there). This announcement has put me even more on the fence on buying a blu-ray laser projector, so far I am just going to wait for the RED home laser projector i guess ?

OMG!

So you are the guy kicking my ass in all my online first person shooters!

I very well could be, but no. I am the guy that when he upload raw R3D files via aspera (web) will deprive almost any facility on the west coast of bandwidth :)

Joking aside, I have been told that when I do direct uploads i leave office buildings that have 100+ employees without internet :P

We actually solved this with the Crimson Cinema Laser Projector... we even allow DCI compliant passthrough from all those old players until they finally get rid of them :)

If you needfield teats for crimson in a cinema, lemme know :) Getting ready to de-twin the original section of our theater to install a 50 foot scope screen...

Wirelessly I have no idea, but it states that it has Genlock, which is exactly what that will be used for.

It is interesting that the RCX RREncoder plugin seems to, optionally, use your GPU for encoding. Does that mean GPU debayering will be possible in the future? That's what I would love to know :)

That's awesome! How much are you paying? :)

Brnadon, I dont have this speed available 24/7, but when I do I have to pay almost $10,000 per month for it. We ussually pay this when we have to upload raw alexa/red files overnight from Puerto Rico to LA. We can manage to upload 100's of gig's overnight (that is if the other side has the bandwidth to receive it).

We have done this a couple times with Mike Most and some of his proyects and it has been VERY cool and mostly painless (but not cheap! :(

I forgot in my questions, original question number three:

As thunderbolt is based on display port, any chance of thunderbolt in the future product, Jarred?

Congratulations to all involved in this. I think this date will be remebered.

--------

If I get all of that correctly, including RED-Ray Projector, the future is based on medium sized theaters. Where small groups can watch 3D or 2D 4K-movies freely from a large menu.

I know that is only one of the many new ideas... , but isn't that THE option for the indie film culture? Just thinking out loud. :o)

I have no words but thank you. And best of luck at Sundance--I hope people see this for the change that it is.

Phil, I think .RED might not be playable on a computer because the compression they've achieved requires the hardware within the Redray to playback--I could be totally off of course. And if you need to screen the content before pushing it, you can always just watch it on your player.

Maybe. I don't think that will be the case though. I think many content developers are going to be making material and they will need to QC it before distribution. Many of those folks won't have a RedRay.

We'll wait for official word though.

I would think that at the very least the $20 RREncode license would allow for .RED playback -- QC purposes. Otherwise, how would you know if your encode was successful. So there's that.

Can someone tell me why everyone is ordering RedRay right now? I want one but what is the point until a 4k display is available? Was there a red projector announcement I missed?

Or can we start playing with OdeMax network in 1080p until we have 4k?

Yeah, it will output 1080p and 720p.
