  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Just curious what other people are experiencing with their Rockets.

Fast shooting+not enough media doesn't always leave a lot of time to watch every clip back in real time. I resort to Fast Forwarding through the footage if necessary for verification, that is, if, RCX/Rocket can keep up. I'm actually getting better low-res fast forward response with my rocket DISabled.

For example:
RCX 340
4K RC36 23.98 footage
Rocket enabled, 1/4 resolution
Fast forward = I watch the frame count change by 25 frames with every stuttered updated frame in playback.
8-core 2.26 MacPro, 16GB RAM, GT120.

Buffer bar build in my viewer window seems slower at every resolution with the Rocket enabled. At 1/8 res for example I've heard (from RED folks) that the buffer bar should just zip across and fill quickly with the Rocket enabled, AND (in contradiction) that sometimes it's faster on some systems without the rocket, due to the rocket's full decode and scaling vs. the cpu decode at chosen resolution only.

So again, just curious what other rocket owners have witnessed.

Curious as to what the exact question is.

Having Rockets in 3 different systems, and getting realtime @ full wether I watch through dvi, single-link 8 bit YUV/SDI or 10-bit 1080 RGB SDI.

All MAC.

2,8 8x 2008

2, 26 8x 2009

And one more 2009 which I don't remember the speeds for.

What kind of media are you playing back from?

Haven't seen a noticeable difference in buffer bar build speed whether playing back from eSATA single drive or my internal 4-disc RAID 0, so at least for me the source hasn't seemed to matter.

Sorry didn't mention playback is via GPU DVI. I do get realtime playback 1/2 res with the rocket. (usually don't go full with this monitor)

BUT... since like I said I don't always have time to view the full res at realtime playback speed, I've resorted to FFD. >>

THe exact question is what kind of playback performance are other rocket users experiencing using FFD. Does your buffer bar in the viewer window populate quicker or slower with the Rocket enabled?
