For anyone who wants to see a quick side-by-side comparison of the two:

To my eye, on the Redmote Pro, if you're a right hander, that record button is right where one's thumb would be, so with the size of that dial I can feel my fingers moving the dial smoothly. I imagine the wheel is going to move like magic; I hope I'm right.

Like I said, I'm going to invest in the base Scarlet kit (with the 640 GB Red Drive, if the SSD drive has considerably less storage compared to it), then work up to the 5" monitor and Redmote Pro. Since I'll be doing event work, my concerns are battery power duration and storage capacity up to 3 hours per event.

The slanted white ring on the Redmote Pro looks very much like the marking disc of the Arri lightweight follow focus unit. I don't have the part number in front of me, but it comes in the Arri MMB kit.

I have to believe that the Redmote Pro might be able to be utilized as a remote follow focus.

It certainly would be an excellent feature to have.

so Im all for the redmote pro.. but... will this be useable with an external receiver and motor system?
I see how it would work with the newer glass RED will eventually put out.. and I can see how it would work with current still lenses such as canon which have motors built in..
But what about those of us with manual lenses.. pl mount or nikon (such as my ZF's?)

I would love to have a Remote Focus Unit, that would work with these...

Also, on a side note...
with all this remote focus, auto focus stuff coming out in the future... what do most of you see happening?
50/50 manual focusing/ auto focusing?
more auto focusing? (with pre assigned points of interest)

If the REDMote Pro is, indeed, capable of remote follow-focus work, I just want it to work with Canon lenses. And smoothly, at that.

I second this inquiry- is there a Red motor in the works?

Maybe to really, really piss us all off :D

I remember going to the Globo studios back in 2003 when my dad was going to participate in a live show, so I was there next to the camera man pissing him off.

The cameras were those huge studio cameras mounted on a kinda skater dolly with pneumatic suspension, fitted with huge Canon lenses, and there was a small wheel at hand reach with three metal cranks sticking out of it.

I asked him what was that for, he said it was a little toy to play with while he got bored shooting the shows, lol.

I still suspect it was some kind of follow focus.

:rolleyes5:

Canon Focus Demand.

Red's putting a focus knob on its remote and sells a bunch of lenses without built-in focus motors... a Red motor seems like an obvious addition to the lineup.
