  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X Professional Build 5...

Works great! We have just sent a large project from fcp and graded it. I found a bugg and a workaround:
- First time you do "export Timeline separated clips" you get to set export folder and options (handels, checkbox for fcp xml) it works, but not after that. Just first time. The workaround is to remove all prefs in the red folder in User/me/Library/Application Support/red and re do the settings if you need to change them.

It is unlike any curve or contrast tool. Just use it when it seems relevant.

For me, that is 100% of the time between 35-50%.

Jim

Have been playing with it for few hours, and I am getting the same experiece . I have not tried yet to create a DaVinci project, so I cannot verify what info from the new Post Effects are retained on the resulting RMD. Has someone played enough to provide an educated answer, or can someone from Red reply with an official statement? I cannot find the answer anywhere.

Thanks!

Has any noticed RT playback with audio is wonky? I.E. sounds like the audio is sped up while footage plays back at the right speed...

Alchemy/Clarity/Saturation basically make all of the REDs NEW cameras. It is that good.

Can someone confirm that the saturation slider under Alchemy is different than the one up with the general color sliders? It certainly seems to be much more accurate color wise...

Thanks Justin. What you're seeing is the difference between pre-gamma saturation and post-gamma saturation. Lightroom, for instance, does pre-gamma saturation and looks very much like our existing saturation control. When you take an image into Photoshop you're doing post-gamma saturation which looks different. I personally prefer the look of post-gamma saturation, hence it's inclusion, but I've had other people on their shots prefer the pre-gamma saturation so we've got them both available for you to use as appropriate.

I'm a big fan of clarity myself - I love how it looks in moderation. Start with a flat image, adding clarity and Alchemy and you can really produce a fabulous image very quickly indeed.

Alchemy looks really nice, doesn't it. It's a rather special, film-like adaptive contrast algorithm. And it's only available for R3D.

Graeme

Well as I understand it Alchemy is a secret algorithm so we're not going to hear more about it.
It's ok for me.
No matter how, you can be sure I'm gonna use that a lot ;-)
Thanks a lot for all those VERY GOOD improvements.
You rock !!!

Oh Man...

Played with Alchemy yesterday and still playing today...

Can't stop...really

INSANE...SICK!

Looks analog, no joke. emulsion...

Graeme, you did a wonderful piece of art really.

Thanks so much!

Graeme,

I agree 100% with your statement about the differences and likes about both gammas.

Would you answer the question I asked in the post #102 of this thread, please? It has been kind of difficult to find an answer around the red or reduser sites.

Thanks, sir.

Indeed, i actually try to mimic the same look from alchemy by using curve, contrast, 3 ways and rather tricky and couldnt get it 100% the same. Alchemy is just one slider !

And i also prefer to use it with Redlog Film footage. Is it develop for that gamma space ?

Downloads fine from site listed....but not from software using "check for updates"

I had the same issue, so I deleted the one in my application folder and downloaded the new version from the site and it works fine.
It's a free software so I'm not going to complain because I had to re-install it.
This new version is really cool!

LOVE IT! Woot for negative clarity. Though it's not quite as natural looking as Lightroom 3, it's close enough. Huge time saver, thank you guys for another wonderful free upgrade on my cameras.
