  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X Professional Build 5...

Oh my God, Alchemy is THE BOMB! This is what I've always wanted my Red footage to look like and now, with a couple of tweaks, shots that were just too brash look amazing!

Well done, I am very happy now!

Could someone clarify exactly what Alchemy does? I've been looking at the scopes and can't quite suss it out... Is it a custom S-Curve adjustment? How does this differ from the contrast tool that already exists?

From using it and watching the waveform monitor it seams to act a lot like a compressor/expander does in the Audio Realm, Increasing apparent Dynamic range or decreasing it as needed

Very Cool tool thank you RED TEAM.

Here's an alchemy example. Basically it's a contrast function, except it does it in a really nice way. There is a bit of that luminance without chroma going on. You could get to the same place with time and a good colorist, but it's a great shortcut to that look. I like it and will certainly use it.

Sushi happy hour begins...

I have a question about the still snapshot function in release 5 Beta.

It is excellent that I can flag a frame, have that frame show up in the "stills" tab, then be able to send that frame to Photoshop or Lightroom.

One thing I noticed was that in order to display the stills you have flagged, you need to have the clip selected that contains the flagged frames. It would be great to be able to scrub through the footage, flag your frames, then have all those flagged frames show up in one list. Of course it would be dependant on the clip being loaded in the project. From there it would be possible to batch "send" to Lightroom, where you carry on as usual.

Is this possible now?

Thanks
Colin

wow

wow

SOoooooo.... Alchemy, Saturation and Film Look ----- WOW. I mean really wow. Holy wow cow. Srsly. RED!

Alchemy is great, like it's name.

I was thinking about motion HDR, now, for Scarlet-X, since there's only bandwidth for a single stream at 4K 24, would it be possible in RED CINE - X to make a virtual second and even third exposure using the ISO sensibility? Would it work? It would be obviously more limited than HDRx, but maybe you could add 1 stop under, 1 stop over of dynamic range without to much change in noise and contrast due to the ISO characteristics going from lets say 400 ISO to 1600 ISO ? Does it make sense? Would it be feasible?

It does not go unnoticed, just how generous you are. All of these incredible non-stop software updates... with kick-ass new features, at no cost...

just.... well.... thank you.

Alchemy/Clarity/Saturation basically make all of the REDs NEW cameras. It is that good.

Can someone confirm that the saturation slider under Alchemy is different than the one up with the general color sliders? It certainly seems to be much more accurate color wise...

the ability to link audio from a separate source (with matching timecode) works brilliantly. Almost makes me not worry so much about the pro in/out module. Almost.
seriously though- this can mean that as long as a lockit box is attached to camera, sound doesn't need to be tethered to the camera any more....

Seems to me like Alchemy is a "bleach bypass" style filter - sliding the lever to the right increases local contrast and lowers saturation, sliding to the left does the opposite. Very nice when used in moderation.

For everyone using diskarbitrator, red watchdog does the same thing on mac (only)

Look for it on the menubar at the top.

It'll automatically mount all redmags as read only but you can selectively
remount as read/write.

Excellent inclusion :D

Extremely impressive! I love what the Clarity slider is capable of bringing out in footage, especially in small increments.
