  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X PRO - V60.0.17 Beta 1

Beta 2 is now available on RED.com. It fixes the following issues:

Potential crash on start-up on MacOS X 12.4 or higher
Crash when clicking the Export button on the Export dialog.

Been a while since I used a beta build; does installing the beta overwrite the “release build” install?

(And any word on how Metal performs on Intel macs? Is there as much of a boost as with Apple Silicon?)

Any one else having issues toggling between full screen and back? I can get to full screen, but it wont play the clip and toggles back partially.

Having big crash issues under current 60.1
getting an error on Mac Ultra that says system ran out of memory.
forced to do a hard shutdown.

Thanks for the heads-up Curtis.

Also FYI, "Check for Updates" in RCXp doesn't consistently work. Just noticed now that not one, but *TWO* release builds of RCXp 60+ (now at 60.1.2) have been available for a month and half. facepalm.

Update:
- Negligible/No performance improvement between OCL and Metal on an 8GB Radeon 5500 (which has worse playback when GPU decompression is on)... That's with 6k at 5:1 to 12:1.
- Definitely have the "kicked out of full-screen" glitch. It doesn't stick and kicks back to the main RCXp edit panel without display until you un-full-screen it.

Why is RCX so buggy. Worst than in the old days ;-) Fullscreen playback is not supported on my Macbook pro M1 Max. Is it due to M1 processor?

Definitely not because of Apple silicon, as mine is an Intel Mac and doesn’t do full-screen any more either.

Well it looks like I had it set to use Open CL, when I switched to Metal it seems stable so far.
Just ran a short session but holding.
Full 8k playback is pretty amazing !

UPDATE; so, no full screen playback, no second monitor playback, ...
now it won't playback 8K raptor footage without a black frame flicker,.. ..

this is a disaster,..I use RCX on every shoot I do.

Mac M1 Ultra , 64 gb,OS 12.3.1. files on SSD raid.

It will not even boot on my ultra with latest version. I have been in touch with Red support and sent them a log file. Ventura 13.0

We have released 60.2.2 with the following fixes:

Fixed: On Mac, when the user clicks play in full screen mode, RCX switches from the video window to the main window.
Fixed: Send video to second monitor not working on Mac.
Fixed: Crash on Mac when user minimizes main window.
Fixed: Alchemy Group: Clarity effect causes corrupt frames when using Metal on Mac.
Fixed: Alchemy Group: Skin effect causes corrupt frames when using Metal on Mac.

We don't enable the notification until a new version has been out for a while to ensure no major issues crop up.

Jon, while your issue is not mentioned, it should also be fixed.

Awesome!

Ironically a silver lining of not realizing release builds were available is that I only had to wait a ~week before issues were solved. LOL!

If I enable Metal with 1 GPU, everything works but the playhead can't keep up at full debayer. Its close, but can't.

If I enable Metal with 2 GPU, the playhead CAN keep up easily, and the external preview monitor plays fine, but the video in the UI flickers violently.

Presume this is an issue with using Metal + display on the same GPU? Is fixable? I suppose I could add another GPU for display only.

Hoping for an Apple Silicon native version soon!
