RED WEAPON - Info and Data Sheets

Hello Phil,
Shouldn't it be :

Do note, that Weapon is an upgrade for Epic Dragon cameras. Epic is not going anywhere and is going to be part of the line for a long while

As Epic is the body and Dragon the sensor.

No. Because there is also a path for Scarlet Dragon owners, which is awesome if you remember that at one point Scarlet Dragon was supposed to be "end of the line".

Nice post. It dosen't look like there will be an easy way to attach a sidehandle, but they may have some clever way.
Or is it the end of the side handle, if so how will we hot swap batteries?

Jarred made this post earlier and I feel it's rather relevant to how RED is proceeding with Weapon and the "line of sight" future.

Nope.. Epic and Scarlet are here to stay. Weapon just gets added to the top. The Dragon family is a family of 3 now. Best, Bester, and Bestist. ;)

o yeah.. and there is more than one Weapon.

So we'll have Epic Dragon, Scarlet Dragon, and Weapon Dragon with more than one Weapon option. There's a lot to read into here, but it should put some sense of comfort into all Dragon owners hands that they have options.

I believe there will be a new side handle.

I presume there will be a new sidehandle, but I just can't see a way to attach it. Looks like the whole side module would need to be removed

Bob, it looks like the same 7" monitor with a different base. It would be really sweet if there was an upgrade to change out the monitor base at the same time you upgraded your body.

+1 to monitor upgrade

Maybe it's just a dumb bolt-on handle with the battery receptacle residing on the Brain. Also appears the new Sidewinder (or is it Switchblade... I get confused) is now known as the Skull and that's where you get secondary menu options.

It will be interesting to see what is included in this upgrade, if it includes the new side module (switch blade thing), LCD conversion and SSD module. Be great if there is a package deal.

Having to replace the screen and a so much other gear may affect my upgrade on multiple cameras. I struggling to decide what to do my third MX Epic, to upgrade, sell or keep.

I must say I really hope that the carbon upgrade is not out of whack to the other upgrades, having only had the camera for 6 months, to upgrade a specifically designed body that soon is a lot of something that cost 20k extra and will now be discarded. Judging by their track record, I suspect RED will take this into account.

@Michael - nothing Dragon related is being discarded. Quite the opposite really. The only thing that is really ending is the MX to Dragon upgrade program.

O......M.....G....!

Well, it would appear RED's secret Weapon is becoming less secret with each moment leading up to NAB 2015.

Jarred last night spilled some more details about Weapon. And this is big news.

"ProRes"

In the last 24 hours the industry has changed.

ProRes has become an industry standard over the years. This is "huge" for productions that utilize this workflow.

Also, notable. That's a hefty 1TB MINI-MAG.

Just to reiterate something I said after seeing Weapon for the first time:

Im with you on this having only taken deliver of my CF Dragon about a year ago it would seem a pretty hard dig to have to come up with a bunch of extra cash to upgrade for a camera that is bearly a year old and then stack a bunch of module's on top of that.

Im hoping that due to the more expense the CF owners paid for their cameras was like money in the bank and we only have to pay for a basic upgrade because the inner workings of the camera are not that different from the standard upgrade.
Sorry if i sound confused.
I have been searching the posts to see what the cost difference was for the original CF upgrades on X'es and M's back when.

Vision.

This solidifies 100% the reason I shoot RED. VistaVision is my favorite format.

Serious man! Vista! I'm sure when Jim saw the real results from Dragon and started posting about dragon 6k equally matching vista resolution vise, he must have thought : lets do this for real!

What does the vista format add up to in terms of xK pixels with the dragon sensor?

Edit: That means ca 7,4K -
And this means FF35 coverage with a margin of 1,77mm and that means FF35=7K - Wow!

Thank you so much for your sensor size charts Phil!

Ok, sh*t just got real. WOW!!!!!!!! FULL FRAME!!!!!!!!

That means Weapon is 8K at least. And can scale down to 6K "Epic". I knew it!!!!!!!!!!

So excited!!!!!!!!!!

One month ago I saw Weapon. Learned lots of things. This particular thing is so utterly important to me it's absurd.

I guess this puts us close, if not right on the money height wise for proper anamorphic 4:3 coverage.

What other glass will cover the full vista-frame - Schneider Xenons and Leica Summicron-C I presume...

Judging by the black color of the mount, that's the magnesium blend for Carbon weapons only.... and perhaps that sensor growth is the extra bump for the Carbon line only. I'm imagining a few more people taking that leap if that's the case.

so what would vista bring? Would it be similar from going from apsc to full frame on a dslr? So more dof, better low light etc? any other things it would add?
