  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED V-Raptor 8K-VV: First Test Footage

Hard to tell from YouTube but I was very impressed by the 6400 ISO footage. Very clean.

Here's another ISO noise test I saw:

Hey, that's me! Thanks for sharing. YouTube kinda compressed it beyond use, but I posted a drive link to the H264s on the Raptor subforum. Check those out for a clearer picture of the high ISO grain.

It's a very crappy test, and I intentionally pointed it at the part of the room with the most difficult lighting, hoping to really draw out the limitations. I was definitely impressed. But the YouTube compression really eliminates the appearance of fine grain, so definitely check out the H264s at your convenience.

R3D snapshots in the same thread, as well.

Between the slow motion and the orchestral version of "Paint it Black" I thought I was watching
circa 80's/90's era NFL Films (which is a good thing).

Considering the lower resolution, I thought this test looked decent enough. Usable if treated with care.
The detail seem to hold together better than other 2K RED footage I've seen.

Maybe RED just made a viable Slo Motion camera for moderate needs.

Brian,

Considering the crop for the 2K 2.4:1 that has to be used to get the 593FPS it looks acceptable.

Yes agreed.

The 2nd frame comparing 8K to 2K is pretty funny.
There's more space in that 8K frame than an apartment in NYC.

HaHa,

Yeah, I didn't realize it would be that cropped.

I got a little excited by everyone's pretty "water pouring in 600fps" footage, so I just shot this lil slow mo sample of my own.

2K HQ 593fps
Canon nFD 50mm f1.4

These clips are amazing. Are these all-natural with no production lighting whatsoever?

Eric,

I think the indoor and exterior Night scenes By Neil had some lighting in the background. I believe you can see both some lighting from outside street lamps and some reflectors shown in some scenes as well as some deliberate lighting in other scenes. Only Neil can confirm any of this however. But this still looks great for being shot at ISO 2000.

Thx for posting all this Rand. Really neat to see all the new footage pop up here soon as its uploaded.

Thanks Brody! But I think I should probably start a separate thread so as to not take away from this thread that Phil started for other purposes.
