  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SLOT CONFIG?

i have a Mac Pro w/
Kona LHi
ATI 4870
Highpoint Rocket RAID 4322 SAS card

does it matter where the Rocket goes? is there an optimal config for these cards?

The Rocket needs an 8x slot, as does your RAID card and your graphics card. You only have two slots to choose from, so there will be some decision making.

The RAID card will [normally] function in a 4x slot, just at a slower speed. The graphics card may as well, but I haven't confirmed that.

I picked up a GeForce GT 120 to fill a 4x slot on my machine, as I had multiple 8x cards I needed. I use a Magma box on one of my systems for my other 4 4x cards.

Dammit, Apple...

I wish Apple would make both slot #1 and #2 double-wide or give us 5 slots. And there's no reason that with 4 slots in a system like this, that they're not all PCIe 2.0 X16.

Anyway, I'm preaching to the choir here.

After encountering an issue with ROCKETCINE-X late last night, I started up this thread here. For anyone looking to discuss various issues or comment on the new application. Lots more RED Rocket cards should be in the wild soon, so I'm sure people will be talking about the application.

No playback externally at all yet, Zak.

Hopefully all soon.

can we paste looks across multiple clips, say if i wanted an entire rdm folder to have the same grade? or do i need to punch each one in manually

Coming soon... as is monitoring.

Jim

Our card should be here soon, but I haven't heard any benchmarks on rendering to ProRes or DNxHD yet. Anyone have any idea, or does REDRocketALERTCine~XYZ just render to DPX files for now?

-Russ

Someone already mentioned x4 so I assume 9 frames per sec. for Prores.

DPX files are the most optimized right now, we're all waiting for the next build for some more optimization, poor Deanan. In some tests yesterday I was getting about 12 FPS to ProRes from a 4k debayer. Disk I/O seems to be the biggest thing right now, for whatever reasons, I'm getting better numbers than some of the guys that I've talked to that have Fibre Channel that can pump over 1000MB/sec by just writing to an internal RAID. I get Real time DPX export from 4k 16 x 9 29.97 and obviously faster than real time from 23.98 material. And that's with no CPU usage besides finder just trying to figure out where all these frames are showing up from and being written to.

I love that line. It's like the Mac is being blindsided by an outside force. The Mac is wondering how it's possible these DPX files can be made that fast. It's envious.

Let's try not to assume until we have actual numbers from an optimized SDK. Often times assumptions and speculation are misinterpreted as fact.

Just a thought to consider.

if a redrocket-mac can play out realtime on sdi... Then just patch up another mac with a kona and capture to whatever format needed. Although tc and reel name can be tricky :)

Like Jim said, this thing is in its infancy so the initial reports of what it can do and how fast blah blah is will for sure improve, all I know right now, is that it's super fast and for the money, it's way faster than any computer out there for debayering.

Quicktime is a bitch from hell to get working fast and right. We aren't happy with the current speeds so we're doing a rocket optimized implementation that will be way faster. The new implementation which will be here soon will be the one to benchmark.

My assumption was the assumption of the record someone posted so not the assumption of the optimized SDK. Not to worry, I have higher expectation from you.
