  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red One On a DJI Ronin?

But no one has yet tried to run a One with a Ronin? This is beyond mystifying. Surely SOMEONE with a Ronin has a RED One laying around somewhere!

Just got this from the Cinemilled folks:

"Hi,

While with a small light lens you might even be able to fit the camera in the cradle....I would venture to say that the tall mass of the camera couple with the size and overall weight....is just too much for the motors.

So what this means is that while it might even balance when you stand there and move the ronin around, when you go to run or move with teh ronin and CHANGE direction that is when the motors might not handle it.

Effectively I would say it does not perform.

Physically it might (not?) even fit with the extensions."

I guess that remains is for someone with a Ronin and the extension arms to actually give it a go with a Canon lens on the front.

I'd love to see this work, but it is seeming less likely by the day.

i find a stripped back R1 isn't overly heavy. i sort of still hold hopes for a R1/ronin combo.
also sorry for a delay of ordering the arms to test. christmas took my money! haha

That thing looks like a damn beast. I'd love to see if this works, their site seems to advertise putting an Alexa on there so there may be room...

There are some test videos on Youtube and it looks kind of jerky... For that price that's a little concerning...

i Found this, i haven't felt the weight of a f55 but with the accessories it has on in, that should be similar to a barebones R1

Surely someone owns both a Ronin and a One, right? If it works, DJI is looking at probably thousands of additional sales.

F55 is a decent weight fully rigged. Easily Red One weight.

Not a thing. It's one of the mysteries of the universe. SOMEONE has a Ronin and a RED One. I'm certain of it. But no one is telling us if it works or not. It's a real shame.

They're not talking because they're in traction and can't get out of bed. Starting at roughly twenty pounds for just the gimbal and camera body, by they time you have it configured, that would have to weigh around twenty-five to thirty pounds. It'd be like carrying a three year old toddler with your arms outstretched all day. Maybe EasyRig needs to come out with a parental model.

Good one, Mark!

But I think that's why God, on the 8th day, invented the EasyRig.

A couple of weeks ago I tried the easy rig with the Gravity one with my R1 and the result was good but the footage requires a stabilization software.
Maybe we have to downgrade to scarlet Mx to work with the Dji ronin ;-)

Any chance you've got some of the result handy?

Not yet Danny because the copyright, but once the director upload the video to vimeo I'll to put the link.

Interesting.

I would think that the mass of the RED One would actually be quite helpful in gimbal shots, so long as the Ronin's motors can move that mass. More mass means fewer "micro-movements" on a steadycam so I'd think something similar would be at work with the Ronin.

Very anxious to hear more.

Looking forward to seeing the footage. Any chance you have a pic of your setup?
