  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red One On a DJI Ronin?

From the Ronin physical dimensions you can think the R1 is not going to fit, from the center of the plate to the back there are only 140mm in the Ronin, R1 body has a total large of 305mm, the only way I can see a R1 mounted there is with longer arms in the Ronin, hope someone get more details how DJI is suggesting to mount a R1…..

I'll see if I can get any details out of them. Does no one on this board have one and also happen to have a R1 on a shelf somewhere?

EDIT: I contacted DJI for more details. I'm also contacting Gremsy for more info on the gStabi H14. THIS demo looks fairly intriguing.

EDIT 2: HERE are some XL Ronin extension arms for sale (currently out of stock). I wonder if these would work without throwing off the balance or centre point...

I've been reading about this and posted a link a few posts back regarding XL arm extensions, however, from what I've read it's a difficult process which involves cracking open the motor housing which is glued closed. In addition, by extending the arms you're changing the gimbal's centre of gravity and so you need to extend the upper part of the gimbal as well, which again, involves basically disassembling the entire thing. It'd be much easier of DJI would make an XL variant, and given the Red One market, not the mention the Alexa users, I can't see why they wouldn't...

If you look in the second image just above the camera magazine, there is a silver block built into the top of the gimbal. This is what's needed to re-align the centre of gravity after extending the arms.

There's a lot of rumours on other boards (gimbaluser.com) of some Ronin variations being released in the near future.

I want a Ronin for my RED One. . . and I want it yesterday!

Yeap, if you extend the arms more than 1 inch you will also have to extend the upper part, but if it is only 1 inch there is no need, one more inch give us from the center of the plate to the back 165.4 mm, and thats enough to mount the R1 in the second trio of holes, and i guess thats the reason DJI is saying that the Ronin can fly a R1, so in theory we will only need an arm extension of 1 inch….but a confirmation from DJI is a must…..

I'd love to see someone putting a R1 on there.

Ketch Rossi is going to test the Ronin with XL arms and provide feedback about it. The XL arms will be at some time in the future (near future I hope) and option which can be manually replaced in the Ronin.

Here is a picture comparing the original arms with the XL arms.

For more details check the forum, soon Ketch will provide his feedback:

Available from a 3rd party or from DJI themselves? I've read some of the issues involved in replacing the arms and it sounds pretty intimidating...

it is going to be a XL arm replacement provided by DJI, therefore it should not have issues, and thats the reason now is under testing.

Hey DJI! You've got people on here wanting to throw money at you! What's the deal?
