  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet - Price Jump After December 31st?

I am thinking of putting down a deposit right now, but I don't have the full amount right now but will in a month. Now what happens in the scenario that my camera is ready before I have the full amount?

A) If you are talking about one month, it won't be.
B) You'll probably be given several days to get the money while your order is held.
C) Worst case, you have to cancel and get your deposit back.

You have 10 business days from start of processing (i.e. from the time your bomb squad rep tells you the order is ready to ship) to pay balance in full.

Agree that if you order now, you shouldn't worry about coming up with the balance in the next month. If you really need to plan ahead on arranging finances or moving money around in order to be available at the right time, the spreadsheet from this thread should be extremely helpful:

Order today or tomorrow. RED is closed this Friday.

It won't be ready. You're fine. Putting in a deposit now is a VERY good idea if you're wanting to lock in current pricing.

I'm neither upset nor "spreading" anything. We are all permitted to theorize and discuss. If that's a problem for you you may wish to block users who's opinions you don't agree with. :). Let's keep the forum civilized.

this is based only on your wild speculations Arnold.
what i do know is:
that it is the first month of shipping and cameras ARE being shipped
that you have absolutely no idea how many got shipped and probably most aren't published here
that, though some tried to speculate, we have no official idea of manufacturing rate (which is true for most products from most companies)
that you don't know how many cameras were ordered
and that the only thing told by Red, is they hope to be out of backorder by FEB

why are you so stressed about this? and why are you spreading fals speculations?

i ordered a bunch of accessories from RED on Dec 1 and they all shipped... within the month, with the holidays and all.
and i'm on the other side of the Atlantic...

Scarlet now is like a pre-sale... lower price, no official shipping estimates. this makes perfect sense.
if you can't handle buying thing on pre-sale then just don't.

and Simon, i think it makes much sens to place the order before Dec 31 if this is the cam you want.
you will have time later to get the money or cancel it, but you'll save a bunch

True. There are no official estimates that I know of. I use the same numbers everyone else has. Indeed RED will not tell anyone even what year your camera will be allocated under any circumstances. Be patient.

He means his own estimates. Not any official ones from either RED or anyone else.

On topic: order now if you want to avoid the price increase. Don't worry -- as long as you get the order in the system, RED will take care of the rest. :)

Mr. F (if I may call you that) - You just won't give up on your campaign to try and convince anyone who'll listen that delivery dates are somewhere way out in 2012 or 2013. Of course, you are entitled to that opinion but when it is based on nothing more than your paranoid speculation, perhaps you should state that up front when you respond to these inquiries.

Amen Terry! From what RED's been telling us, they really mean to be out of backorder by February, which is only two months away. They wouldn't be that aggressive if they didn't have a kick-ass plan to do it.

And hypothetically even if you extrapolate from standard time to classic Red-time, that still means they'll be caught up by Summer MAYBE early Fall in the most pessimistic estimate. My team ordered a Scarlet this month and we're continuing with our plan to start principal photography on our movie this Summer. I have no doubts that a camera ordered in December will be delivered within the next 6 months. Still a long time, but hey, this is special merchandise ;) Seeing that there are Scarlets in the #500's already in the wild makes me confindent that they're shipping these out at a fervent pace. 2012 is shaping up to be a great year for RED.

Arnold, you may want to start with using your full name, as this is a REAL NAMES forum. You've been reminded several times in other threads and continue to not use your full name...
