I've heard a lot of reports about how fast the upgrade process has been. I wish I could say the same. Shipped #2336 and was told the same day about the hold-up. Had a rental lined up that was well outside the 7-10 business days turnaround (next week, actually), but now that everything has been pushed back at least a few weeks it looks like I'm going to loose $2-3k worth of rentals. My upgrade rep told me the camera would ship out Thursday or Friday this week and I still haven't received tracking numbers from FedEx :-/
A shame getting upgraded seems to be a variable experience. Being without my camera due to a holdup would worry me a lot (I don't need to get worried just yet with a 7000's serial number).
My company insurance policy would cover me for the cost of rental equipment in certain circumstances. (ie. If I could show that it was not a scheduled, planned for delay, but an unforseen problem, breakdown or error leading to my camera being unavailable or non-functional) It may be worth checking your policy wording carefully to see if you've any support on that front? Clutching at straws a little, but its worth a look.
