RED ONE / DSMC 1 upgrade program finally has an end date.

We are upgrading ahead of our schedule due to this. I understand Red's position, but it still was not really good timing for us. But after being burned on our 9" touchscreen being unable to be repaired due to "Red no longer having the parts," we're not messing around with our cameras and are upgrading them.

I upgraded a few weeks ago from Scarlet Mx. I've been running it through a multitude of tests and I can tell you the Epic-W is exceeding all expectations of resolution, color accuracy, detail, noise performance. If you can make it happen, go for the upgrade to DSMC2, it's a great opportunity that I have not seen anywhere.

Hm, so you made me pay 10K for Epix MX to Dragon upgrade just to keep in line for future upgrades. Some time later that you open an new path for MX and even R1 to Epic W (which was indeed extremely generous btw) and now you´re closing my DSMC1 Dragon upgrade path completely? Do I get this right? I have been lucky with the timing of my purchases in the past but this time I feel a bit left behind.

I already have an Epic-W. And the second hand market is already 20K $ for an Epic-w brain (like new) so I don't see the advantage to trade an Scarlet MX + 20K $.

Yeah been a bit quiet about the VV ANA as we get ready to launch the sensor swap program. For now You will need the full Weapon to use that program as we roll that out for the dragon, helium, monochrome, VV Ana , etc.

As a new RED One MX owner as of last year, I'm a little worried about repairs in the future but with all this talk of cheaper DSMC1 upgrades, is there a chance for a cheaper upgrade for RED One owners to Scarlet-W or even Battle-Tested Dragons? Mostly I'm not too bothered with having to buy a new camera but I'm more worried about losing out on all my 1.8" drives and other accessories that would transfer nicely to Dragon but not DSMC2 which would need much pricier Minimags. :/

I guess the next question then is: is there an upgrade path from epic-w to weapon & how much and then the same again to VV ANA? My scope lomo's on the ANA would be pretty rad but feels like it would cost a lot?!

You mean that all of us still hanging onto an Mg would or would not be eligible? I didn't want to make the jump to 8K Weapon Helium because I've been hoping to save up and eventually jump to VV!

I still believe the path to Weapon VV is probably through Helium 8K right now, because you'd still need to make the jump to a Carbon Fiber body before you're VV eligible. Need that extra horse power. With the changes happening in the the "sensor swap" rollout at RED, I'd assume you'd want to be at the top for compatibility.

Still rooting for you! Just a little worried you might have to move one up, or the cost and wait time for an Mg owner's move to VV might have you hanging out for a long while. The Helium Weapon upgrade is a great deal right now !

Ah perhaps you're right. I wonder if it would be possible to upgrade just the boards on the Mg to prep it for future sensors rather than getting a completely new body? Helium looks great! However, I prefer the larger sensor size of Dragon 6K because of my lenses and shooting style. Maybe a larger Helium sensor will eventually come out too?

Once you have the CF ( or forged ) Weapon, things will start to be pretty kick ass, pretty soon.

Epic-W is in a pretty great spot to move to that Weapon CF.

I've been swapping sensors back and forth for a bit now on my CF testing for this new program. it's incredibly liberating.

Being able to jump between VV Dragon then to Monochrome Helium then to 8K Helium to 6K dragon to "something else" then back to VV all in just one body opens up a whole new creative freedom when you prep those big jobs in advance. In a weird way it stops you from thinking about the camera and much more of the nuances... like Film stocks in the olden days or more like when you think about picking lenses. It's pretty cool.

Everyone needs to chill out here. If your camera breaks down we are not gonna throw you to the curb. It means we can not offer every single M or MX part new as a replacement part forever. We are not going to spend the way too many millions of dollars to go turn back on the MX sensor machine again just to make you a new M or MX sensor if it does. You will need to upgrade to a Dragon sensor, which will likely be cheaper to do than replacing the MX sensor anyways.

This is normal procedure for pretty much every company. Most companies just don't announce it. I'm telling you in advance to give you all a heads up.

Do not take me wrong, it is a legit concern. I value very much the offer, but to upgrade our three cameras it comes to 60k. Besides we would have to upgrade our two editing bays to handle 8k. It took us long time to get the workflow where we are now. we edit native realtime. Most of our projects are delivered in HD and some 4K. Upgrading would add the good things of the new and better sensor but it means a huge and obligated expense for us that for the moment our clients do not require. If our cameras break, most likely is the end of the road for us, we would go back and rent cameras instead of buying them like 10 years ago.
