  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED NAB Speculation thread...

Im just happy with what I have right now. It's serving me well. Love my Epic as it is. :) dragon chip is about the only thing I would like and honestly not fussed when it comes out.

I agree, Dragon must come to NAb and be updated in the next few months and by the end of July all updated.

Well,

NAB is two weeks away, Reduser is deathly boring these days (with the exception of crappy camera test threads and a lot of bitching about a proxy module) . Refreshing the new threads list is like walking through a flea market where every other booth sells a QUAD battery adaptor (I don't know why people sell these I love mine).

so let's start guessing what the announcements will be.

WHAT DO YOU THINK RED WILL ANNOUNCE AT NAB?

My top serious guesses.

Probables

4. Big price drop on SSD media with new sizes announced and a slight price reductions on battery prices.
5. Beta 4.0 becomes release build 4.1.0
wild guesses Satire (humor) warning :)

3. RED announces Deanan Dasilva is returning to red, new firmware in the ensuing months is released hourly.
Until NAB, let's have some fun!

Cheers
david

Those predictions would be more than welcome.

I don't care about the proxie module anymore... I've been asking for 2 years now, so by the time it finally comes out it will be 3 years... By the time it finally comes out, I will have moved to Premier full time and simple computers will have got good enough to be able to eat up and spit out R3ds with little effort. Ill stay with 5k raw editing and exporting out 16bit 4k masters all from a laptop and a thunderbolt red rocket.. I suspect Prores will become a codec of the past for me in about 1 to 2 years. .... Maybe less. Time will tell.

And I agree David. Reduser is dead. Nab will be another flop. Lots of announcements of gear that you will see and touch on the day, but sadly won't be releases ever.. Or may come out in another year or two. Red is a small company at the end of the day.

I actually fill pretty bad that you fill that way Mark!

IMO after over 20+ years of dealing with Camera manufacturers I have in fact come to love RED and the way they do business, even so we don't like to wait for new gear, NO one does, but again we would not be waiting if RED would have done from the beginning what every one else does, which is announce nothing till the product is done, and no one here wants that, as already the fact that RED has changed it's policy to announcing way less then they did before is not making any one happy, but we do understand how the market works or needs to work when every competitor's ear out there is wide open, listening in!

Either way, no matter how later then announced they deliver still a product YEARS ahed of the competitor and at a much more desirable price point.

As far as Reduser been dead... I don't believe that either, yes it has changed, it has to, as it no longer is a community of just the few hundreds of us, it is now tens of thousand strong, so it's understandable that has taken a life different then what it was, but I have been here and I am here to stay, because i love it, and despite the fact that there are more negative people or people that are not so polite with others that have been here from the very beginning and thy should respect them a little more, speaking of my self, I am glad that Jim stepped in, and I staid as I would have missed this community terribly, besides, I now know that those very few and isolated set backs from those members that attacked me, was in part my fault for been too up front with my too big of Dream sharing, rather then fact sharing, and I have adjusted to it, never stopping learning important and valuable lessons in life, so here I am to stay as I love this community and the people in it, so NO, for me Reduser is definitely not DEAD, and sorry, really sorry you fill this way about it, as I truly enjoy your posts and image sharing!

If you knew some of the stuff coming to NAB, you'll also not ever say that this year NAB will be a flop, trust me on this one, if you referring directly and only to RED because of the gear announced will not be delivered for years in your opinion, then that too you'll be mistaken this time around, and that is my Strong opinion... ;)

Any ways, I hope you change your mind about this community Forum and to stay, joining me in continuing to share tough, images, and creative posting to help new members as as we have done so far, because if you don't you'll be missed.

ihear you on all this mark. RED have been fantastic at getting us chomping at the bit for products that end up taking some time. It's true, they are self admittedly a small company and its hard to keep up or stay focused.

In terms of the proxy module, there are so many affordable solutions (not as elegant as a proxy module) that incorporate monitoring and playback that I can't see RED competing in that arena.

The key is the small form factor and keeping everything small.

5k in your hands is what is most attractive. I have things down to one bags bunch of redvolts and a monopod, that can get me by on a ton of stuff, then there is the small form factor for tight knit spaces.

I love it that Hollywood sets build it up to the size of a panavision, but that is not where the revolution is.

The revolution is in our hands. I want less Hollywood, more revolutionary news from red.

Ketch,

you are a tease! What do you know about what's coming at NAB. Share!

I agree with Mark in the sense that I would much rather see a faster workflow for native R3Ds than a proxy module. If computers become fast enough handling 5K raw material and the ease of use is just the same as prores than why on earth do we even need to edit with proxies? Of course, just when we are starting to get comfortable with 5K, RED is about to give us 6K....

New firmware update impoves the 3 axis motion sensor and lets third party get access to the data.
New red rocket see the light!

Hydrogen...

Is explosive :-)

Of course, just when we are starting to get comfortable with 5K, RED is about to give us 6K....

6k is actually going to be easie to work with and have lower data rates as you can compress more in 6k and the dragon sensor will have a larger pixel size. This means 6k is not only going to be better but easier to work with than 5k or 4k now.

So 5k and 4k will be smaller data sizes and higher compression rates, for more recording time (it's hard to get your head around but it's true)

david

LOL... anyone guess exactly what Hydrogen will turn out to be?

I was not aware of that... good to know.

Any word on 18K? JUST KIDDING!

(I saw a tweet pointing out two new RED registered trademarks:

CRIMSON: movie projector
HYDROGEN: Apparatus for capturing/transmission, and reproduction of images)

Crimson is known, but Hydrogen???

I'm hoping for an update on the backpack accessory, in this thread here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?61479-BACKPACK-system

It's pretty much everything I'm after for my run/gun configuration. Trying to find all the parts from all over the internet from various manufacturers is doing my head in.

Please!

I think Hydeogen could be something like a Wireless video Repeater so it send it a Long way.
