  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Monstro 645 Speed Booster Experiment

We didn't. We use MF speed booster optics

Which means it doesn’t require any modding, it’s DSmc1/non-swappable OLPF compatible, and should be a fraction of the cost... Only downside is that it requires MF/hassleblad lenses which aren’t as fast/wide as FF35 glass>s35 (so you kinda lose a lot of the benefits for sensors smaller than VV.)

Glad to see Kipon finally shipping those!

P.S. To do what Jacek has done you can simply use that Kipon MF Speed Booster on the DSMC Leica M Mount. Yes we tried that along the way and it's what inspired us to create some new optics.

I'm pretty excited to see these speedbooster mounts. Any update on the Duclos end? Will we see anything at NAB?

Is it also possible to use that same Kipon MF SB glass and insert it into an Arri Alexa Mini Leica mount? With test charts and lenses to infinity moving the glass back and forth until it matches and then 3d printing a housing within the leica mount this should work right? Is there any other speedbooster glass that covers the alexa mini sensor used with full frame leica r glass?

KIPON Mamiya 645 to Red 0.7X Mount

KIPON Mamiya 645 to Red 0.7X Mount

I just received my KIPON Mamiya 645 to Red 0.7X Mount. I did a quick test once it came in, didn't notice anything unusual, but it was a quick test and I haven't had time to do anymore testing. I check-in soon with some samples.

All except the RED One series correct?

EDIT: Never mind, it can't. But it definitely looks pretty cool, wish there were more reviews and compatibility lists and notes out there. I'm not sure which version I would go for at this point, I'm glad they have multiple mount options including RF and Z now but I'm still waiting to see what other next gen cameras are in the wings before buying one to try it out.

I posted on the other thread, but seeing that this one is more recent, perhaps I'll have more luck here :) A question regarding the Kipon focal reducer - do the lenses move in the mount during focusing? As in, is there a visible image shift when using a motorized follow focus? As far as I can see there is no locking mechanism on the lens side and all the reviews I can find online are mainly for photo.

Yes the mount is standard bayonet so some lenses may move when focusing. We've had that feedback from customers.

Jacek, thank you so much for replying! I saw that C7 is offering locking Mamiya adapters but without the focal reducing element of course. Are you considering integrating a locking mechanism into your focal reducer design?

For such a small volume the most sensible thing is to put kipon glass into the C7 adapter
