I’m confused as to why some think it’s going to be same size as Komodo now. Jared said if you want it to have more power to do the extra frame rates etc, it would have to be a little bit bigger.
Because he also made the comment about Komodo needing to be the same height and width in your hand. That’s where I extracted it from.
Taking it abit further and lining it up with the silver ring of RF and it does look slightly larger.
Look at the size difference in the screws around the mount in the superimposed image. They appear to have substantially different diameters. Yet, the mounts must to be the same size. You need to draw lines the project from the top of the inside of the mount straight out. Repeat this step for the inside bottom of the mount. Align both images so that the lines touch the same points on both cameras. This should yield a close approximation of the actual size; Also both images can remain opaque. Keep in mind, the Komodo-X appears slightly off center in this image.

This is off. Jarred already confirmed that he would bet heavily that it will be the same height and width as Komodo. A quick play in photoshop reveals the opening for the mount is larger in this image than that on the Komodo.

If Phil doesnt truly have one already, and know all the specs... that would be really the most mysterious thing of KomodoX of all.
Much like Raptor, I've been in the void of darkness on Komodo-X. When Jarred showed me Raptor 8K VV it slapped me across the noggin that the camera was so far along and shootable. Similarly here as he was dropping hints, but I didn't expect to see a full fledged Stormtrooper body pop up. I certainly "knew" something was coming throughout discourse and discussion over the last year. Somewhat obvious really.
The key things from chatter online was for a while people were discussing Komodo XL, which sounds like a weird concept and didn't sit right with me. But yeah, if I had to guess specs and a very likely price, I think I'd be within 3-10% of a margin of error.
Outside of the announcement, looking forward to seeing this thing in person. I'd be shocked out of my mind if one or more were at Cine Gear as that would be post announcement. Where there is one Stormtrooper, there are many. Historically that is.
My only grounded take here is this. The key thing for this camera is catering to the "more" of what the majority of Komodo owners today have been requesting. Lots of that here and on social for sure. The other layer is how much of that more plays well with the rest of RED's lineup. Though not exactly made for it, Komodo is very much a lot of people's A-Cam. Komodo-X is only going to empower that mindset and workflow further while also checking boxes further into a utility camera for higher end productions. That's my expectation at least.
Also. Interesting Modules are back in play. Something I enjoyed about DSMC and DSMC2 for sure, but also I do like a lot of the built-in features we have now as well.
The top panel and screen look almost identical to Komodo. But notice the CFx indicator… 80/fps and single battery indicator.
