  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED DRAGON Scores Highest DXOMark Score ever.

You have only to be really proud indeed, congrats Jarred, Jim and all the remaining team!

E. :-)

It's funny how alot of people seem to forget what the S stands for in DSMC. We are very proud that the top still photographers in the world are shooting RED, that was always one of our goals from the very beginning. It is why we make Leica and Canon and Nikon mounts for our cameras.

It is amazing to me how far some people need to reach just to sling arrows.

We work hard for this stuff.. I wish people would just let it go already.
In some ways, they are doing you a favor. They make you want to push back harder, make even better cameras. I'm sure it's maddening at times, but it's days like this when all that hard work pays off. You'll never please everyone but if you can please enough people to make a difference, then you have done good.

Congrats Jim, Jarred, and the entire Red team, this is quite an honor. To outperform still cameras in their own game is a tall order, but this level of achievement comes as no surprise to most of us. We simply expect great things from you.

Thx Steve.

Enjoy your day off from everyone bitching about something ;-)

Totally amazing news. So happy for RED. A crowning achievement! Truly remarkable to think what RED has accomplished over 7+ years.

wow! that's awesome!

guess they missed the part about the $40,000 Phase Ones. '-)

Well the price of the phase ones is partly due to them having almost 5x greater sensor area than RED Dragon... 7x greater sensor area for 4:3 capture which is much more practical for stills capture. My understanding is that sensors get exponentially more expensive to manufacture as the area goes up, no? Not to mention that's comparing an 80MP MFDB to a 18MP DSMC, and the DSMC in a more photo friendly 4:3 aspect is only 12MP. Seems cost comparison for such different technologies may not make sense.

Fantastic...congratulations! Can't wait to have this in my back pocket next time a DP buddy starts spouting off about Alexa ;)

1) Formulate a great and daring plan.

2) Work like hell & stick to the plan.

3)

hahhaaahhahaaaa... They will still say "yes yes, we know that, but Alexa still looks better" :) You never going to win.

It doesnt have 16 stops DR?

If EPIC MX has 13 stops ?... I can see an easy 2 stops straight up just looking into the monitor of my dragon, And easily another stop again can be extracted in the grading suite.

So, if the DRAGON only has 14 stop's that means the MX only had 11 stops to start with.? Which i find hard to believe,

First of all: Congratulations for breaking the 100 points barrier!
Second: Congratulations for breaking the 100 points barrier!
SNIP
Tenth: Congratulations for breaking the 100 points barrier.! ... ...
Eleventh: Please profile more Nikon still lenses!

Total number of visible stops versus total number of usable stops will yield a much more dramatic difference between the MX and Dragon sensors. It's not just about how many stops we can see in a single frame, it's about how usable the darker stops are given their noise levels. The Dragon really excels in this regard.

The Epic MX has 13.8 stops of DR compared to Dragons 14.8. Both reports are on there site
