  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED 8K S35

I don't see a reason why not. RED is just adding more flavours to the icecream truck. So when you upgrade you don't just upgrade to the next new thing, but you can probably choose to which next new thing you upgrade.

Hoping they will go back to deposits for new sensors instead of buying in advance.

Totally Agreed. Graeme up the color ;)

Brand new sensor! Cool......

I must agree that Helium is a better name than some of my suggestions to Jarred....
And as with all Red sensors the color science is Graeme's! He is an evil genius!

Always I say go for the top of the line and EARLY every time... half assing it and/or waiting to act ultimately costs you in the end. I've seen it time and again. As soon as the new technology from Red is announced, I POUNCE on it. Never has failed me yet.

Just sayin...

Will we need Carbon brains to power Helium?

Or will Magnesium or Scarlet-W do? (at lower compressions? Say 8:1 or 10:1?)

Methinks this is wise advice....

I hear you! Down the road...that's the goal!!

Always works. Unfortunately I hesitated for a second with the Weapon and had to wait a pretty long time for it lol.

I won't wait for Helium, not even for a half second.

By rough math, and if RED makes a VV/FF sensor cut,
we'll in the neighborhood of 12K frame sizes.

36 times the size of 2K/HD

9 times the size of 4K/UHD

Oh my god... the render times!

My hunch is it will first be unveiled as a S35 sensor option for CF W bodies

8K = VV or S35 = You choose!

We don't actually know that. If it were the same generation sensor tech, then sure. Since this is next gen sensor tech, it may be cleaner. Dragon is a smaller pixel size than MX and yet it is cleaner than MX. I would expect the same to hold true. I don't see Red taking a step back in image quality. They are a pretty smart group of people with high standards. :)[/COLOR]

They could be using BSI. Perhaps better optimized microlenses. But even then, Red can't break the law of physics. I very much doubt this new sensor will be cleaner than Dragon.

Maybe they have switched to Sony sensors? :D

What resolution we will get from the size of Raven's sensor? RED RAVEN HELIUM? Is that possible in the future?

I'd guess that processing muscle would be the issue with bigger rasters in a Raven body. Making a great sensor is one thing, extracting it's potential is another.

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that RAVEN is non-upgradable on a sensor/module level.

Helium-driven camera with Bayhem :) (from FB)

Cool product design in the context of the project.

Seems like every rock-star director can now get a custom-made camera.

My new goal is to earn the right to buy a RED Elsie... 16k or more by then. '-) '-)
