Real names...

Joking aside I agree that privacy is important. Is there not a way to keep nicknames but have real names on the account that only RED can see?

I'm not a big DP or Brainiac on cinematography. I'm small potatoes in the world if film making, but I would prefer this as well.

I'll give you all the information you want as long as it's not shared with Google or the world.

You can look at my posts. I never say anything negative except when I was flabbergasted by a troll not long ago. Sometimes a dumb question, but that's about as bad as I get.

I've been a regular on DVXuser.com for four years and I have been lurking here for three years.

Now that Scarlet is going to be released, I am finally starting to interact on the site. I have a very limited budget and I need to clarify my understanding of the product to insure that I buy wisely and purchase what I need in advance to be ready when the camera is finally released.

If I have no choice, I will use stop using my pseudonym (which is as good as my real name among my friends).

Please reconsider this rule, if you don't mind, and let us remain anonymous.

Thank you for considering.

you guys can go over to Scarletuser/ Dvxuser etc. and say stuff that you dont want anyone to link to your real person.
I know some of you don't like this, but your name only shows up when you post something, and if that bothers you that you need to be responsible for your posts; well; that's kinda the point.

This is why ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

How on earth does showing a "real name" prevent either anonymous trolls (whatever they are) or help make me more responsible for my posts. What's to stop a user creating a fake "real name" and doing the exact same thing as they did before?

I'm genuinely interested, I'm not being obtuse. I simply can't see how this change stops any of these issues or for that matter even makes it more difficult to do so. If it does and these are the reasons please just explain how. But if it doesn't and trolls and post responsibility are an issue that needs to be resolved, surely that's what needs to be looked into?

Again I'm just looking for answers as to why this information is suddenly necessary and what ends it actually achieves?

Good news...bye bye anonymous trolls

The trolls you have today are pseudo-anonymous. The ones you get after 2009 June 01 will also be pseudo-anonymous. Heck, I could tell jarred@red.com that I am the King of Sweden; how can he tell one way or another?

In any case, I can understand why RED may want to know who I am, and I'd normally be happy to oblige with DNA samples and all, but I feel it is most unreasonable, if not plain irresponsible, for RED to just turn over said identification to everyone else as a matter of course. (I'm assuming said ID will be festooned on the user profiles, everything one writes, etc. For people like me, the risks outweigh the benefits.)

Fortunately, given this is posting number 3 or something for me, and the first in many many months, it'll be easier for everyone if Jarred would simply lower the boom on this account. Right now would be fine. No hard feelings and all that. Thanks!

There is no perfect system, either way. Many of the boards have learned that it is easier to keep things productive with real names. It is too easy to get brave when all you need is an XYZ name, a keyboard and a little mouse. There are plenty of legit people here with screen names only. We are asking everyone to understand and support the program, just like we try to listen when the community asks us to listen to their needs.

I have personally joined a few other boards that requires real names. I often have the same knee-jerk reaction at first and roll my eyes around a few times. I'd love to be anonymous as much as possible. Then I go ahead and sign up if it is a board I really want to contribute to. Just the way it is. I fully understand why whether I like it or not.

No one's personal info is ever used outside of reduser. We sell cameras, not lists.

We posted the requirement months ago and have given plenty of time for people to get used to the idea (or not).

:-) ...But seriously, I fully understand and personally welcome real names. Maybe that is because I've posted here under my name since the beginning, but I think it will help the board be more productive.

And as to the the missing part of my post, yes, banning us in RED's name will cause them to lose our business and those we do business with.

People who post questions and answers ARE responsible posters. Those who are obviously trolls should be dealt with accordingly. Forcing blanket name changes (which can still be made up) is painfully short sighted.

Shame on you,
Johnathan Dillion (or)
James Deutch (or)
Jake Dunard (or)
Jason Dupree (or any host of "real" names)

Sorry for your decision but we accept it. I understand that Panasonic, Sony, JVC, Canon, Nikon and all the others have a much more forgiving policy when talking directly to the heads of those companies.

Jim

I don't see the issue in sending an email with your name to be changed...
If people here ARE in fact RESPONSIBLE posters...saying your real name instead of a fake isn't difficult. In reality when your a customer I'm sure you'd (hopefully) use your real name.no different online since you are still a customer and everyone is addressing everyone else like friends would.

Sorry if I have offended any.it's just I don't see the issue here, did I miss something?
