you guys can go over to Scarletuser/ Dvxuser etc. and say stuff that you dont want anyone to link to your real person.

I know some of you don't like this, but your name only shows up when you post something, and if that bothers you that you need to be responsible for your posts; well; that's kinda the point.

Well put. Videodisc is about to disappear. Replaced by some guy named Weeks.

Just wanted to clarify.

I go by Cowboy Bill for all my projects and website, ect. I even have it registered as a DBA.

So does that qualify as my real name, seeing that that is how I do most of my biz...

Thanks

C. Bill

Jarred,

For some top DP's (hollywood feature film guys) I know they are afraid to come on here now because if they ask a question about how to shoot something on Red it undermines thier experience and looks bad when potential clients can see the post through google or ther real name.

Everyone of these DP's clients will now be able to google thier name and read a post that says something like "how do I shoot this" or "my Red keeps shuting down" it doesn't give your client a lot of confidence in your skills or camera.

Me asking about it being google proof had nothing to do with making silly post or joking around at times and I'm not trying to avoid some FBI task force either.

It's not a good thing for your clients to google your name to do some background research and find all your post on how to use this camera, it makes the best pro's look amateurish from a clients pov who don't understand the whole process.

well I'm certainly nobody, but if I'm correct, I can remain using my 1st name and last initial....I must be since my name has already changed from my previous.
So how can someone can get my last name and info on google from just my last initial without any other info included?? Unlike me, you don't have to post your area of residence either.
....ie Steve S ( speilberg) ....Rob A ( altman) ...Timothy B ( burton) ... obviously examples, but IMO....there are lots of ways to be on here while still keeping some sort of anonymity.
Am I wrong here?

RedRay

RedRay

Oh man, I'll have to stop using RedRay which i really liked :( Now i have to go by the name Ray Red :)

I have my first name and last initial also but was emailed by Jarred telling me to change it to my real name.

So real first name and first letter of your last name is ok? That would be cool.

I'm pretty sure it's ok...he emailed me as well, but I'm thinkin' it was a mass email to everyone of us on here as a 'heads up'.

I don't think they would ask me to change it twice.,,,I was originally Digital Iris

Here's an idea

Here's an idea

The most recent posts regarding Clients being able to trace back tyro questions posed by Artists Of Unassailable Professionalism (note Capitals) turns out to be the question foremost in *my* mind.

Not that I'm a DP or anything - I'm happy to change my ID to my real name.

But I'd *hate* to think we technocrats would be so insensitive to our true desire - which is to educate *everyone* fully and equally without compromising their ability to continue working.

Perhaps a more well-considered approach might be to mask all user's names, keeping posting frequency and other pertinent data intact? e.g. you can't post unless you *sign up* with your real name, but people will still only see your nick.

Then - you can still allow smart people to ask intelligent questions without being out of a job.

Or something better than that? I mean, I realize the inherently high overhead of verifying people's identities...but isn't that already something of a problem?

Right... and if you're not doing anything bad, you shouldn't mind the government spying on you. Why would you need privacy if you're not doing something shameful? And why should you be allowed to judge these issues for yourself?

Jarred: if you guys wanna play thought police in your little fiefdom here, go right ahead.
But please have the decency to acknowledge that privacy is a valid priority for other people (which, by inference, you defame in posts like the above-copied text), even if you yourself do not seem to put much stock in it.... there are more reasons than logging flame posts as to why one might not want ones name thrown around the web--especially when you guys treat the forum like a church in which you have the market cornered on truth.

God, this stuff annoys me!

That's just ridiculous!

Seriously??? Hahaha...that is soooo laughable.

So now, asking a question on a RED forum under your own name, is going to tarnish someone's rep? Yeah...ok.

RED IS NEW.... How the heck is EVERYONE supposed to know EVERYTHING about it????

I bet even Mr. Mullen has asked a question or 2 on here.

(Mr. Mullen, if I'm wrong I'll work for you for free :) God I hope I'm wrong. )

If I'm not mistaken, we are all here to learn...so if someone is too worried that asking for help on here will make them look dumb, or won;t get them work, that's their own insecurity...that is not the problem for the people that run this forum.

Annnnnd, a little bird told me that RED has a few workshops coming up...so all you famous DP's and directors that are too arrogant to give your real name and ask questions, and will probably never hire me anyway?...go back to school.

....or...pay for my RED classes and I'll learn it all for you...then you can hire me for BIG DINIRO!!! Yes...I like that much better.

my name is Hanno di Rosa and my username is handiro is that acceptable?

It would help a lot if users were given an obvious way to delete their account. I've viewed my control panel, but haven't seen anything like a "delete my account" button. Guess you'll just have to lock it and let it linger...
