  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ready, Aim... Fire.

This is really amazing... I asked Graeme a few months back why he didn't create a color profile like ARRI's Rec 709 color profile which is more saturated and contrasty. What Graeme has done with RC3/RG3 way surpasses that. Now at least we won't have to hear that crap criticism about the color anymore.

The other camera producers have been ripping us off with overpriced gear for a long, long time.
Red is only doing what any company *should* be doing. Innovating and producing competitive products. And i applaud them for that.

However, aside from the wavelet codec, most things Red cameras do are hardly mindblowing to me. They are only pushing the limit of tech currently available.

Yes, those companies should be delivering $500 s35 raw motion body (Sony NEX-5n with uncompressed 4k USB3.0 or hdmi out for raid and control panel interface) or a qyad core ambarella based 100mb/s+ h264 version).

Has anybody seen the images from the new Olympus e-m5 yet? Between that, and the panasonic hacks, Red needed this update to beat them back, one camera even has raw 1080p. output.

Jim, the RPPs are GORGEOUS!!!!!!!....now if only they could be a little lighter to go with the lightweight Epic...then they would the ultimate lenses! :)

One more with RG3/RC3 and RPP.

Jim

We would aways appreciate more news about the future of skin tones performance at mixed lights, also at low light and noise floor (super clean high ISO performance), than about much higher MTF (stills and motion) with Dragon sensor and its new processor...etc...????!!!!

And I would love a less IR sensitive sensor when ND'ed out. ;-)

Looking at this thread makes me think that digital color history is beeing written right now. Like if Mr Eastman would try some new chemical mixing for better color rendition. :-)

RC3/RG3 is mainly for monitoring and dailies. REDlogFilm is still for grading.

REDcolor3 is for all...

Jim

i hope that RC3 will separate the hues of color much better that RC or RC2 ... for example Blues and green cleaner and deeper (richer )
the green screen example look promising , but again , when i get mixer RED and Film and i have shots that have water or grass field is notice how the Hues of the blues and greens are cleaner on Film ...

The colors of RG3/RC3 are significantly improved. Again.. a very old file from a RED ONE M sensor. No grading other than the standard settings.

It is amazing how much "found" dynamic range there is...

Jim

Today is my birthday and this is my present. Thank you Jim.

The RED Pro Primes are really incredible... resolution up the a$$. I'm not quite sure why they aren't better received considering the price. They are Master Primes less half a stop.

Jim

When can we expect some additions to the family?

Exceptional work, Jim. Where would we be without you. Remove RED from the equation and we're left with a pretty bleak landscape. ( :

Ketch, you're starting to sound like Francesco Bernoulli:)

He he, in what way?

Cause I also go to Monza... ;)

RED used to be Fire... Ready, Aim.

We have changed... just as promised in our tagline.

Now we are Ready, Aim... Fire.

We are now taking our time to get things right before release. REDgamma3 and REDcolor3 are the 1st examples.

RED is a different company than 5 years ago. 5 years ago we had no idea what we were doing. Now we are just beginning to get the hang of it.

12 months ago we decided to make EPIC in the USA. We made one every 12 hours and then fixed it for the next two days. Today we make one every 13 minutes... no rework.

We have been transparent throughout our history... for better or worse. Our progress can be tracked one day at a time here on reduser.

We expect to be out of backorder completely by April. We were known for backorders. That will soon be a thing of the past. Everything changes here at RED.

We appreciate everyone's patience while we get it together... and we are. Your number will be called soon. Be prepared.

The stuff we have in development is unreal. We have invested in the future like you wouldn't imagine.

Keep your eyes open here. Pupils dilated.

Jim

That means that all stage 3 will be shipped after April?

Just as a fun little challenge and to strengthen the bond of the Red brotherhood:

How about you buy everybody a drink who still has an item on backorder in April ?

With this, the worst case scenario would be a huge party :-)
Just for the record, Jim did buy everyone drinks at Reduser party back in 2010. Open bar the entire party (several hours). That and all the other free goodies he has handed out over the years. :-)

rub it in, just run it in :-)

Okay then, because you asked, my pass said NO PIT access... But we were right on the middle of it, shooting RED EPIC of course,
shooting the Italian RED Power-Horse with the AMerican RED Power-Horse... ;)

Okay, no more side tracking the tread... ;)

This is rather exciting. Remember those dragster and eagle images some years ago, and these new versions just look better. While editing old Red One files have discovered the apparent progress over the years. But that there's still progress, that's far beyond what has happened ever before with any camera.
