  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ready, Aim... Fire.

I am very excited by RG3 and RC3, but more than anything else this thread makes me excited for us to receive our Red Pro Primes. They cannot arrive soon enough!

having bought many cameras in my life, and dumped many camera after they become obsolete, I can say this thread and the redgamma3 makes me feel good. Instead of worrying that my camera is getting outdated, you guys make it better. I can't for the life of me figure out why people would wan't to buy a c300. Maybe the need for ready to work files. But a few years from now, the camera too will become a dinosaur. All be it and expensive one.

This past week I unfotuneately had to make the decision to sell my beloved scarlet because red is getting too good at it game, and my epic is ready months ahead of when I thought. it caught me off guard finically. The decision to jump of is an easy one. The fact it can be upgraded makes it a no brainer.

Red if you can have a mission over the next year or two, lead the push to get post production work flows working better with red files. Make a Red Rocket card that acts like a kona or MXo2 that can work with Avid, Final Cut X and Premiere so we can work natively with raw files. If not open up technology to help this along. For TV guys like me, the post production work flow is challenging. I'm hesitant to drop 5k on Rocket card because I do think it is best way to work with files. I'm sure any you can strike a deal with AJA, Black Magic and Matrox to make this happen and not loss money from red rocket. You'll also sell A lot more cameras to the TV market. Who would not want to shoot design show, cooking shows and everything else on a scarlet or epic.

click on the photos and they will get big :)

The RPP's really are amazing... We have played with a ton of lenses over the last half a year, and the RPPs continually beat most in resolution and field illumination.

Can vouch for that....
RPP's are soooooooooooooooo sharp. If they were f1.3, I would take them off my camera.

Was anyone else kind of hoping for a new product announcement called RED Fire?
I was hoping more for an update on what is known. Specifically I was hoping to hear we'll soon have the ability to drop a HDD with our movie on it into a slot, turn on the Red Projector, (you know, the one installed in your local movie house) and just kick back while the Red System exhibits our movie to a paying audience.

I had a little bit of hope that this was what Jim was referring to when he posted something to the effect of "We would all be amazed if we could see the hardware he was holding in his hand." The camera portion of the Red System has some cushion before it becomes ho-hum when a new sensor or resolution is released. Those sorts of camera related things probably can wait until everyone is clamoring to have them.

But since RED is forever attacking the technology boundaries, that means they have to move to another part of the System to make eye-popping advances. Something like exhibition. They've created the Foundation for a Workflow that is quick an easy, and RG3/RC3 will be proof of concept when it is released. They've also prepared us for the 4k monitor waiting in the wings for personal workflow use or personal exhibition.

But they've only hinted at what's coming in the mass exhibition phase. They've released snippets about Red Ray and the Red Projector, but haven't told us yet how this is going to revolutionize projection for the masses. It is said that an idea will only become successful when its time has come. That probably means product price/performance/desireability has meshed.

We can't always (accurately) predict the future, but I'm going out on a limb and say that acting boldly in the area of exhibition is the way forward.... big time!

This company's philosophy is what I wanted to invest in, as much as the hot shit specs of the cameras. We love our camera so much, and we have been so happy with Red as a company. When you're a genius, everything is a work in process Jim.

I have a important question that will probably stay unanswered for the moment, but i ask it anyway.

Could we have a rough idea of the fare for upgrading scarlet (and epic) to dragon sensor ? I'm trying to foresee costs using/upgrading my scarlet in a close future.

Upgrading to Dragon will certainly cost less than what you paid for the camera.

I love you, Jim.
...haha that really comes from heart.

You and Red team will be warmly welcome in Shanghai for your world tour...

Thanks Jim,

Will Dragon work in our Red Ones?
I would be completely floored if it did. Speechless really. But, totally understand if not.

Thanks again.

I think I will have the outline of a babe etched into my Scarlet, so that once it is upgraded it will be THE DRAGON WITH THE GIRL TATTOO ( :

Suddenly I'm trying to remember why I was waiting for the Nikon mount. Those primes are Tack-on.

Now if you're still having supply problems with accessories, maybe you could make one module combining the side-handle, touchscreen, two Volts and some I/Os. Close the screen over the control panel to protect it when not in use. Small enough for a sled rig too. That would be all a lot of us would ever need. Well, 'cept for a set of Primes.

RED used to be Fire... Ready, Aim.

We have changed... just as promised in our tagline.

Now we are Ready, Aim... Fire.

Every time I see this, I think, Shouldn't it be 'Ready, Aim... Launch.'? ;-)

OK, time to go to bed now before I get myself into trouble...

Jim

I forgot to say... THAT'S AMAZING!

“Ready, Aim… Fire!” has special meaning for us as we are fixin’ to mount telescopic gun sights on our two Scarlet-Xs for a surveying/3d recording field application. Will hope to post pics before this becomes a “Zombie” thread.

“we aim to please…” (said the firing squad).

Blackadder (firing squad (part 1); (if you are stuck for time scroll forward to 2.00). (very funny)

Yep.

Talking today about community internet TV to an employee of the local regional council. This is a revolutionary area, for sales even. Many communities are normally left out of regular TV broadcasts, network integration has further concentrated production into central locations, reducing the number of cameras needed. Now communities can report on local issues and do local productions. We are talking about needing maybe ten times more cameras needed, and every region should have a cheaper scarket fi... ahh ..next version. ;) Some integration with suitable studio workflow control software is needed. Newtek (toaster fame) had a small time focus and expertise with some of their products. They had a system called Genesis, I think, for live multi-camera stage production with reduced crew. I remember it because it was a little similar to my earlier ideas. Such systems could be adjusted for set and field work.

I don't think that s35 Scarlet was a mistake as such, but a cheaper smaller simpler camera (weather proofed fixed or auto featured removable along with normal mountable options) was still needed for different markets.

Looks like they are still into something like this.

www.newtek.com/tc850xt-compare.html
www.newtek.com/tricaster/178-why-tricaster-sub.html
www.newtek.com/tricaster-solutions-home.html

Imagine if it was integrated with Red camera/redcode and Redray etc. It would be nice if they worked for Red.

Classic comedy Eric, wish Black Adder would make an appearance on House as a broke lord making a living reading poetry on stage with Baldric as the personal assistant and Stephen Fry as his agent/personal manager, every year. Actually, I wish that the original BBC Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy had such wonderful delivery (especially in the meal serving scene at the restraunt at the end of the universe ;) ). Boring as.. that show, the Robot was mildly funny, sort of like a friend of mine, can really understand his affliction.

Marvin was really awesome… supposed to be an living ‘allegory” of Douglas Adams himself… rather depressed genius with a “brain the size of a planet” mopping about trying to find something useful he could do…

I thought the BBC TV version of Slartibardfast’s character was really good too.

I’m sure when Laurie is finished with House, that we get to see a few ‘take offs” with Rowan Atkinson and Steven Fry and the “others” for RED NOSE day I wager. I’m sure they have been planning this for years… It’s almost too easy but will be very funny I’m sure. By the time House is “done” Fonzie will be in orbit around an entire planet of sharks! (last series seems almost tolerable…)

Ta.

Eric

Arthur: All my life I've had this strange feeling that there's something big and sinister going on in the world.

Slartibardfast: No, that's perfectly normal paranoia. Everyone in the universe gets that.

(notice the use of RED LASER projector in the video clip (he, he).

[Maybe RED one day has a “brain” that’s like Marvin… (in moping tones) “oh do I have to really power up… (achhh!)…So predictable…”

If you kill the fringing where present they will look even better.
