  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ready, Aim... Fire.

The fact we get to plug straight into the conversations and musing from the Chief Designer and his 2IC, with an interactive peer group audience, that's better than GOLD. Its RED. Looking forward to the next release.

Red Gold!

Hehe agreed it feels like all this a secret and can i tell anyone ? :emote_couch:

Jim, any chance of a couple full frame resolution image to see the pixels?

WOW Jim. Just WOW.

The images are looking amazing, especially those from years back. Goes to show that RED has the SMARTEST people in the world working for them.

Think Graeme needs to break open a new Whisky to celebrate!!!!

Can't wait to get hold of RC3/RG3...

:))

The colors of RG3/RC3 are significantly improved. Again.. a very old file from a RED ONE M sensor. No grading other than the standard settings.

It is amazing how much "found" dynamic range there is...

Jim

I'm 99.99% sure that this shot is out in the wild in r3d form as a piece of demo footage for REDCine 1.0 Anyone remember where it can be digged out for comparison's purposes. I *know* it doesn't look that good but it would be fun to see the dramatic change over 5 years.

So excited to see a 'default' Red look that lives up to its potential.

Try this one... click on the pic.

Jim

This shot actually reminds me of a certain wide shot on the movie "The Three Musketeers", in terms of detail, sharpness and color.
I think it was shot with a Red One MX and Zeiss Master Prime. So this RPP looks to be roughly on the same level as a Zeiss Master Prime, which is quite a complement.
Cheers, Jim...keep up the good work.

Jim,

will there be a firmware update for the Red ONE too that enables RG3 and RC3 ?
Maybe I'm wrong but I think the Red One is still stuck on RC1 and RG1, right ? That can be an issue when using both the Epic and the Red One MX on the same set... Or did I miss something on that part ?
(yes I know you can change it in RCX in post, but it's often an issue having to explain to the client why both cameras look very different on their monitors...)

Thanks :)
Nils.

WOW Jim,

looks like that you are the one on fire... ;)

Okay, coming form an other Gemini, I can say that I share the emotion, excitement and passion, yet I have no F%@$ idea what you are up to... ;)

Beautiful images!! No really beautiful!!

I have a strong desire to start using RC3/RG3, even so with the Resolve Surface system I'll play with colors lot more, it is a beauty to have such a power so easy right off the back on RCX-Pro!!

Now since you did mentioned the RPP's, what I can say about them, is that they are indeed the best CINE LENSES in the market for the money, PERIOD!!

Comparable to Master primes for sharpness yes, and the 50mm proved to be even sharper, but of course as we do praised the RPP's vs. The MP's
we also need and must say that the MP's do have a much greater Focus scale markings, and they are Super Color Matched, with also a matched parameters
were you could almost not even calibrate any two lenses for 3D use, but then again, for 4 to 5 times the price they do better have something on the RPP's, which
no matter what, have proven to be incredible lenses, and I'm happy to shoot with them, even so I did owned a set of MP's for a year, and I will
continue to shoot with them, even so I now have coming what is without argument the BEST Cine glass the world has ever seen... LEICA SUMMILUX CINE PRIMES... ;)

The other camera producers have been ripping us off with overpriced gear for a long, long time.
Red is only doing what any company *should* be doing. Innovating and producing competitive products. And i applaud them for that.

However, aside from the wavelet codec, most things Red cameras do are hardly mindblowing to me. They are only pushing the limit of tech currently available.

Ketch, you're starting to sound like Francesco Bernoulli:)

I really feel like a bit of a groupie in threads like this since all I can find to say is, "I can't wait!". I can honestly say that for the first time in my life I feel like I have the tools to realize the images I see in my head. In fact often the results are better than what I imagine. It's also amazing to be able to own the gear and have the time to experiment and make sure I get it right. As bizarre as it may sound to thank a camera company... I really can't thank you enough. Jim, Jarred, Graeme and everyone. Thank you for all your hard work. What you are doing has already dramatically affected my life and I expect that will become even more the case over the next year.

I missed these last night when you were in your posting mood... but a great read this morning.

Jim, this picture of of Chateau in Vegas is incredible. I was just at The Chateau a few months back whre it was rented out for a provate party. This shot, and the detail in it is amazing. I'm looking at it at the full resolution it's posted at here (2000x1055), and the detail is incredible. I can't imagin how it looks at full 5K resolution.

Spectacular shot. Thanks for posting it. Is there any chance of posting a full-res .r3d of this frame?

It may be the single most impressively detailed framegrab I've ever seen, and I'd love to see it at full-resolution...

Thanks Jim... always love to see your late night sessions. :)

Your Honesty, Tranparency and lack of BS is rare, impressive and appreciated

I just shot with SCARLET-X for the first time today. The boot time vs RED ONE MX was a huge help. The camera did everything I needed worry-free and error-free. I welcome a more polished approach on releases because that I have enough to worry about without the added burden of unfinished or unreliable software. I had three jobs last year for EPIC which went to RED ONE MX because EPIC playback wasn't ready. The worst part of it was getting EPIC in my hands, seeing what it could do, but not being able to use it. So I'm happy to hear that sort of thing is in the past (though I'm hoping like crazy Graeme's new stuff is ready in time for my next shoot). Also, I love that my old footage just keeps getting better and the cameras keep becoming more capable. Thanks!

Nope we are still tweaking. You are actually witnessing part of the process that goes on behind the scenes... We open up a ton of footage from brand-new-unreleased-firmware as well as camera firmware from all the way way way back to see what happens.. And as much as we have grown as a company Jim still guides the entire process.. Nobody does it better.

I just love that Jim prints posts like Ready, Aim...Fire - and then gives us a BTS preview of the new color science in the same breath. Good to see that the old ways aren't totally annihilated....
