  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Quickplate V-Lock Battery module ready to ship

i would buy one of these if i didnt buy the backpack quickplate short collection a month ago. btw thats working amazingly.

I got my cables from them to power the Teradek off the +1 Module. Good stuff.

Hi Christopher, I'm eyeing the Teradek along with the +1 module and the v-mount module. Would love to know which model of the Teradek you have and how/where you mount it on the EPIC. I do have the top and side cheese plates. Also, which cable did you need to get exactly?

Thanks in advance for any tips! Feel free to PM me if you feel it'll be OT for this thread.

Okay - Laird is all over making a 90 degree lemo 2-pin flying lead - I should have details later today - I suggested a discounted "5-pack" and/or discount code for REDUSERs - I'll post details when I have them -

Ah, very nice count me in! Thanks Mark

We already ordered this and we're looking forward to getting it. Not only do I want to 'cut the cord' and make work easier for everyone, I'm interested in the ability to do things like:

1. Pop an AC plug into the Epic body, swap V-Locks, unplug the AC and go back to battery.
2. Keep a belt-clip with emergency v-lock in an AC camera bag. When the v-lock runs low, the AC can snap the belt-clip v-lock onto the camera while someone runs to get a fresh battery.

I assume this is possible but can anyone confirm? Hopefully so! We'll find out soon enough and will post results.

Im pretty sure you can atleast that would work with the quad module.
Better option than using the AC I would sugest the side handle and a redvolt, As when you actually can plug in an AC to change battery you usually are able to run on AC the whole time. But when there is no power... there is no power then the volt / side handle is great for hotswapping batteries in the back.

The only reason I don't like the REDvolts (and sold mine off) is that I prefer to keep power needs on a set very simple. I've got a pile of RED Bricks with chargers galore and those run my lights, my cameras, monitors, and even a custom unit I built. One power source and one charging source for everything. Much less complicated for me that way. But as I do use Side Handles, I can appreciate why people like the RED volts.

But if you have Enough bricks for a day of shooting, you only need like 2 redvolts to keep hot swapping bricks all day. More comfortable them using a Brick on you belt I would say...

So anyone know where to get right angle 2 pin lemo cables custom made?

The guys at Redrock Micro referred me to Terry West - techrat531 at verizon dot net

He is making me a custom cable to attach my new RED Plate to my RR MicroRemote FF Base Station.

Terry, make sure he knows what vintage RR Base Station you have. I have an early model RR which is powered by 6-pin. Current model Base Station is 2-pin power.

Paul, thanks for the heads up. I didn't know that but, as it turns out, he is making a 2-pin.

can anyone explain to me why we need something (the module adapter or +) between camera and this V-lock module? i love this but the module adapter adds another 1/2 inch....i guess i will wait to see what the final version of the XL module (that keeps popping up) will look like....if that one needs the module adapter as well, this V lock module might be the better solution....
regardless, i just don't understand what the module adapter actually does? it seems like (in this case) all the connectors are on the camera anyway?

As i understand the back of the cameras are not built so it can take the the force of having modules hanging on to them. The +1 and module adaptor screws onto the camera and has a solid mechanism that takes the weight from other modudules. I agree it is a bit odd as the early draings of the cameras did not have the module adaptor.

However having the +1 is great. the evf port an power out is really needed as we use the volts.

The locking mechanism that engages the locking posts in the modules would have required increasing the size of the body to accommodate the physical aspect of the module interface. Structural strength as Bjorn offered could be a factor as well.

Choice was to make the module adapter separate and keep the body smaller. If they had gone the other way, then the "brain" would have had to be bigger and heavier regardless of if you use rear modules or not.
