  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Quickplate V-Lock Battery module ready to ship

I'm sure this was answered somewhere in there but after wading through the first 8 pages....

Will the V-lOCk module accept aftermarket V-Mounts like Anton Bauer's or is RedBricks only?

Hey Joe,

Anton Bauer are not V-mount. IDX are V-mount, even not officially supported most decent V-mount batteries should work fine with it.
The read out might not be shown as % on the screen but as voltage on the majority of non RED batteries.

EDIT: I stand corrected Anton Bauer just drooped a V mount: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTlY1zGTCZo

I bought it at the Arri stores at Arri Media. It is an Anton Bauer 4 D tap block with a Curley cable and a 2pin lemo 0B connector . I have also seen other rental houses make their own. It was about £75 + VAT. You wouldn't be able to use all 4 at once though. I may even put some electrical tape over 2 of the D taps as even using just 1 with a Preston gave me a couple of warnings on the touch screen, they did go away with a reboot but it was a bit embarrassing.

What a joke, what in the hell was red thinking when they designed the fuses

Still hoping that there might be a version coming that doesn't need the adapter module. Kinda like the Redvolt XL back module on which you can chose if you want to use it with or without the adaptor module.

Now that would be a great idea! An improved Quickplate that doesn't need any additional adapter modules and can be used on its own... +1

We already ordered this and we're looking forward to getting it. Not only do I want to 'cut the cord' and make work easier for everyone, I'm interested in the ability to do things like:

1. Pop an AC plug into the Epic body, swap V-Locks, unplug the AC and go back to battery.
2. Keep a belt-clip with emergency v-lock in an AC camera bag. When the v-lock runs low, the AC can snap the belt-clip v-lock onto the camera while someone runs to get a fresh battery.

I assume this is possible but can anyone confirm? Hopefully so! We'll find out soon enough and will post results.

Has anyone tried these yet?

Plugging in a power supply to the DC jack on the camera brain causes the camera to switch over to the external power source. You can swap then batteries while there's something powering the camera through the DC input plug. Disconnect the DC power input, and the camera reverts to drawing from the attached battery.

I ordered mine 3 weeks ago, took 2 weeks to arrive. I would contact your bomb rep about your order.

haha, my rep in germany has no idea, only excuses. and nobody at red wants to answer my question, how long i have to wait. got an answer from a rep at rhq, i should ask my rep in germany. very sad, that nobody of the german team can answer my questions.

ordered mine somewhen in november 2013, still no shipment. for me it seems that we european customers are class II customers.
this situation definitly changed my mind about a investment in a epic cf. sony has served me well here in austria within the last 20 years, and the f55 is a nice camera. maybe it's better to go this route.

:-(

I was on a job with a Preston a couple weeks ago off of D-Tap and the Preston would just not turn on if it was plugged into a battery with RED's battery data. I plugged it into a generic brick and everything worked splendidly. I think there is something incompatible with RED's battery data and Preston's voltage sensor.

had the same problem with UK bomb rep... didnt get responses on email for a month,.. ordered mine late January and had to get a little mad to receive it as the XL Module was still nowhere to be found so I got the camera and most of the gear but couldnt use it as I was without power solution for a month... now even the XL Module will be here in a week or two...

Yesterday, I've finally received a confirmation by my German rep who told me that the Quickplate Module will be ready to ship in the next few days. I ordered it last December.

...same situation with the redray. and the 25fps story of scarlet. no 25fps. the mailed answers read like "you are european, fuck you. we don't care 'bout you".
this is very sad and will be honored when it comes the time to buy new equipment.

Norbert we don't discriminate against Europeans, we make Americans and everyone else wait way too long equally. No idea what you are talking about Scarlet 25fps.

As a guy from Munich, I think I can count me as a European and every experience I had with RED (here, in London, Berlin or in LA) was always very kind and helpful.

What are you talking about?

FWIW, one of the first people I saw with a vlock module was a friend here in the UK. :)

Yeah.. yeah we love you guys over there. Historically I have put the very first units of most of our stuff in the hands of guys in Europe more than anywhere else... including our own backyard.

I was one of the first worldwide to get the Canon EF Mount from RED, Thank's for your great work! I love the possibilities RED gives me

FWIW I think they are complaining that SCARLET will only go up to 48 fps in 3K and not 50fps. Lots of TV content delivered in Europe still requires 50i...
And REDray not supporting 25p but only 24 and NTSC framerate is also an issur for PAL content.

while my wait for somewhat of five month i had to read here that other guys (in u.s.) got it within a week or so. this was in late february. this for the v mount plate.

redray, no pal friendly fps. so, it is useless for me.

scarlet: i gave it away because (i think it was 4k) hdrx was not possible at 25 fps. only 24. or was it 48fps, in 3k instead of the needed 50fps? it's too long ago. maybe it is enabled now. i do not longer own one. and never again will own one.

not to be misunderstood, i love the most of your products. but some are useless (for me). but maybe red will fix that one day. if this is done, i would buy a redray within a second !
